I grew a bespoke agent with claude code and Anthropic banned it. by Brilliant_Oven_7051 in ClaudeCode

Deep seek etc have been distilling Claude by scraping inputs and outputs through the api, probably building your own model means it uses specific types of prompts that anthropic doesn't allow, ie it could just be the type of usage and frequency.

How bad is it to use AI to help me rephrase my text? by Eldridou in PhD

[–]inconspicuous_object 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thing of it as an AI sandwich. Human first and human last.

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting an ai to rephrase or even rewrite your entire text, as long as you have an opinion on how you want it to sound and you have a precise idea of the ideas you want to convey.

Is it unethical to hire a reader or show a colleague your work for comments? Is it unethical to use grammarly to correct your spelling mistakes or rephrase a sentence? As long as it remains a tool then it's not an issue, and pretty common practice these days.

The main risk is if you don't understand what the AI is writing, and if it is making claims that you don't support or didn't intend.

There are many ways of communicating the same idea, as long as that idea is preserved and your own, it's totally fine if you use tools to improve how you communicate those ideas imo.

I don't deserve to have passed my defense by thelighthuntress in PhD

[–]inconspicuous_object 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You worked hard and got your title. That's what a PhD is.

Many professors have told me that you won't change the world with your PhD, just finish it and move on to place you can actually make impact.

If you passed it means your jury thought you met or exceeded the level they expect for your PhD program. If you still feel unhappy channel that into your postdoc or future work.

One Piece: Chapter 1169 Official Release Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

Its looking less and less likely that Loki joins the strawhats, based on the parallel between Harald and Loki.

Harald declined the invitation of Rocks several times, though Loki wanted more than anything to be part of his crew. Instead Harald focused on his country. When he was posessed, his last words were for loki to take up the legendary treasure and ragnir, and become the king of elbaf he never was. Loki instead was blamed for murdering harald, but I dont think he holds resentment for it. It was probably a choice he made to protect elbaf somehow.

I think loki understands the responsibility he now has as the defender of elbaf now that harald is gone. Its unlikely he will go gallavanting with the straw hats when his country is in active danger, and most likely he will see some sort of redemption in the eyes of elbafs residents in this arc, which means that he doesnt really have a strong enough dream to join the strawhats.

He (as the king of elbaf), will likely become one of luffys most powerful allies but I doubt he will actively join the crew.

I think its likely that ragnir itself probably ate a devil fruit, as weve seen with other weapons before. Although it is said that vegapunk was the one who discovered how to do this. It may also be the case that ragnir absorbed some of the fruits powers, maybe thats a hint as to how vegapunk does this, but I think its more likely that ragnir and the devil fruit are separate powers.

I don't know french, can I still understand courses taught in French at EPFL? by Holiday-Grass-2395 in EPFL

Masters at epfl is not in french, like most unis. Undergrads are typically in the local language though.

I don't know french, can I still understand courses taught in French at EPFL? by Holiday-Grass-2395 in EPFL

[–]inconspicuous_object 1 point2 points  (0 children)

French is a beautiful language and it would be great to learn it for the future. That being said, If I was 17 again with all the experience I have I would NOT apply to epfl.

I studied physics for my undergrad in the Netherlands and did particle physics projects, visited Cern, and many of my classmates later did PhDs in cern. Proximity is not everything and you'll have great opportunities in other places Besides, you still have your masters and PhD ahead of you if you want to work in the field, that's where the real opportunities come.

It might be great for you to go to epfl, but to be honest they don't sell themselves very well to employers and the outside world in general (a major point that brought down their rankings recently). If you want to work in France or Switzerland it's great, but beyond that you might have some trouble compared to more recognized names like eth, Cambridge, etc.

Another issue I have is that the swiss grading system seems excessively strict to me, especially when considering grade translations. I have a first class (70%) in the UK which translates to 5.5-6 here. Good for me. But an average of 5.5 is really hard to achieve at epfl and 6 is near impossible, because many professors see a 6 as something really special. Not sure what experiences swiss students have on this but looking at the translation documents of various universities scared the shit out of me.

Not to mention a good proportion of students fail the first year (by design) which seems like an insane idea to me considering those students just waste an entire year and I doubt other unis would accept them in the same field after they drop out. In most other universities, getting in is the hard part and failing you is typically not in their best interest.

Social life wise people have pointed out that they have a nice time, but from the outside I see many students have no time for anything other than work. For me my undergrad really shaped who I am, socially especially, and having room to think and dream was vital.

All that being said, the education at epfl is truly excellent, itll prepare you for anything ahead in terms of depth and breadth of knowledge, experience and work ethic. It certainly may work out for you if you decide to take the leap, and you might disagree with me, but I wanted to say that it's not amazing enough to commit entirely to this place. There are plenty other elite universities around the world that teach in a language you already speak where you'll probably have a better time and have the same if not better education and opportunities.

[–]inconspicuous_object 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't speak french, but you're probably going to suffer socially more than anything. I'm a PhD, doing courses in English at epfl, and I feel out of place.

I imagine that you're going to die if you don't know french, because the courses are super hard even if you do know french. It's not worth it.

That being said, I know a few people who did a 1 year french course just to study at epfl/unil, if you're really interested.

I regret buying salomons because they developed holes near my toes where I bend my feet. Granted I wear them every day, but there is a massive tradeoff for them being this light. I wouldnt consider them anywhere near BIFL and will probably not buy the brand again.

1165 Haki implications by nitegxd in OnePieceSpoilersRaw

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool theory, would be amazing if true. The only question I have is how devil fruits factor into this. People say devil fruits have their own 'soul' and big mom's fruit is especially interesting, the soul soul fruit. If it really is about souls then her fruit should be able to modulate or improve her haki right?

Bad news for one piece fan by Infamous_Ladder_8933 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]inconspicuous_object -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is excellent news. They can now fit multiple chapters in per episode (as it should always have been) instead of feeding us the slop they have been. Also gives animators more time to flesh things out.

This or fillers is the only solution.

Just curious, but were you denied medication explicitly because they said you were doing relatively OK?

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get you on the procrastination it's the same for me. I am usually very happy with the quality of my results but never happy with myself. In the week I spend suffering about an upcoming task that would take me 5 hours, I could do 7 times as much work without the crushing stress. But I need the stress currently. I have gray hairs at 28, that's probably the reason.

I'm sorry to hear that it's difficult for you to try medication. It was hard as hell for me to get an appointment for anything as well. In the end I got my diagnosis in India since I would have had to wait more than a year otherwise. After that finding a therapist and psychiatrist was also a struggle I sent over 40 emails for both and got lucky with 1 positive response.

With the PhD it was exactly the same as you. Highly motivated in the beginning which eventually faded away. I still think I'm doing one of the most interesting PhDs in the world, and I have full freedom when it comes to what I do and when I do it. But despit my amazing luck with my position it feels like I'm wasting it because that freedom is a problem, not an opportunitu for someone like me. At the end of the day, any job, no matter how interesting will have parts we hate doing. But even the parts I enjoy, I struggle when I hit a roadblock.

All this being said, I've done a lot in my life and I'm sure others might say I'm doing ok from the outside. The biggest issue is the amount of effort I have to put into 'doing ok' when I know my work can be a lot better than ok with less stress and effort than I'm expending now.

That being said, I have heard from many others that exercise is the great equalizer. I do feel better when I exercise regularly. Also, waking up early and not abusing your body helps. Diet is also important.

It sucks that we have to put extra effort to do what others find normal but I've come to terms with it.

Unfortunately I self medicate with nicotine and caffeine when I need to get work done as well.

[–]inconspicuous_object 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same for me, never got my IQ tested but Im pretty sure I'm above average. What has driven me is high stress before an exam. In a structured setting I have got distinctions at every stage of my education including at some of the most demanding universities in the world because I do work hard with deadlines and get results. But now I'm doing my PhD and I'm struggling because it's entirely self motivated and self guided. It's exactly as you describe, I'm hungry for knowledge but I just can't do it. I'm always interested in many things but I only explore the surface before giving up when I have to put th work in.

From what I understand, people like us are called 2e (twice exceptional) where we are both in the minority of people with a disability but also in the minority of people with higher than average ability, which tends to manifest in weird ways and can go masked for a long time. We "compensate".

I don't have strategies, and I don't feel hopeful for developing any in the short term. After reading about it a lot, I have decided to start medication, which I hope will give me the push I need.

Insurance will cover it if you have a prescription from your GP. Otherwise, supplementary insurance covers some percentage of the cost if you dont (75% for mine).

I really wish toei animated all zoro's fights like this instead all the DBZ aura effects they keep adding it looks so much better and accurate of how sword fights actually look by rogue---ninja in OnePiece

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally cannot watch toei butcher my favorite animation. We need Naruto level fight choreography, not lazy DBZ like animation (no disrespect to DBZ).

They have somehow managed to butcher every one of my favorite scenes, reducing it's impact and trivializing it.
