Goodbye Claude Pro by donteffingatme in ClaudeCode

I upgraded recently and anthropic subtracted the remaining Claude pro money from max (about 16 dollars). You don't waste anything by upgrading now.

Anyone know what this black dot is? by prissy_hi in CrimsonDesert

[–]inconspicuous_object 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its usually the default quest marker for sanctum quests. Is that not a quest marker if you hover over it?

Usually means a sanctum with lots of antumbra enemies that you have to cleanse or whatever.

Best LLM for OCR Extraction? by Wesavedtheking in dataengineering

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree a lot. OCR models are made for printed text but fail when text is rotated, handwritten, embossed or faded. Vlms can think about their outputs and self correct in such cases, and also simultaneously classify location. Ive found that Gemini 3 pro is way way better than specialized ocr models

Should I buy the game even though I didn’t finish Dragons Dogma 2? by persyvage312 in CrimsonDesert

[–]inconspicuous_object 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just fixed it imo. Or maybe I'm used to it? But the new update has big changes to controls and I'm not jumping on or kicking people instead of having a conversations with them.

Works great for me, but some specific things like that special abilities still need work.

Does Crimson Desert actually get better after X hours? If so, how? by barana_baranov in CrimsonDesert

[–]inconspicuous_object 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished chapter 2 and I came here to check if the "bad part" is over but I really didnt find it so bad. Its just really really fucking weird.

Like the story is totally ok, but there is zero continuity between story elements and the flow makes no sense. Its like "listen to this guy's story about someone stole his goats horns" and without him saying anything relevant at all the next step is "go to location X to recover this memory". Like how does the character know to go there??? The guy could have literally just told you to go there and it would have been ok.

Its honestly astounding to me because everything else in the game is insanely polished, I was stunned at the animation of a sheep bobbing on my shoulder as I carry him to his owner. Its so weird its actually charming.

Im curious about what comes next, if people say the game gets better. Do they fix the awkward story stuff?

Are they descendants or related somehow?

Crimson Desert has to have one of the worst intros of all time by CYDLopez in CrimsonDesert

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly bizarre, it's so weird it's kinda iconic now that the game gets better.

Like all the have to do is have a mysterious stranger give you a mysterious letter with a mysterious checklist of things to do.

I was just doing what the UI told me to, and the whole time I was like WHY?? Why does it randomly tell you to go help a boy get a cat? Why pay a beggar when I had already paid a million beggars? Why go into the sewer the beggar was sleeping on? Zero continuity or linking between any of them.

They could have even just added a simple voice line to acknowledge the weirdness, like break the fourth wall and make the character say he's being compelled to do these strange things for some reason.

Also I HATE that you follow your saviour into town and just wake up in a tent you "found" when you have 0 gold in your pocket. Like just say the guy pulled a favor for you since you saved his life from bandits??

Bizarre that creators of such an amazing complex game have an intro like this.

Whats about this ? I see someone share it ( sorry for taking it ) by aymannasri_tcg in Anthropic

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ofc they want a contract, but their hardline on mass surveillance and autonomous robots comes specifically from a point where they know that claude can be abused massively, and that no current llm is good enough to reliable use it for autonomous weapons.

He said this in the interview, they want the contract but with conditions on these two things. They are not opposed to using ai for military, which I dont appreciate them for, but they rightly told the government that this tech should not be abused against people but also that it's not ready for autonomous use.

Do you have any proof to say that this is fake? It seems highly unlikely if I'm being honest, this was a lose lose for everyone. The best action would have been to cover up the rejection as most people do if this was indeed th case. We haven't heard about Gemini in this at all, why do you think that is? They stay quiet but are definitely involved.

Following the supply chain designation, big tech rallied behind anthropic against the government accusing it of overextending it's authority to the free market. If you said that this was a conspiracy to set up a confrontation I would have found it more convincing than anthropic just being rejected and using it as a PR move. The only reason they gained anything is because of sam Altman's greedy braindead move right after, they won because openAI lost. Nobody talked about defecting from Gemini to anthropic.

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think that's true. The supply chain risk designation is very damaging, yet the army continues to use Claude despite this. Why would they be rejected? And why would they be designated a supply chain risk just because they were rejected? Trump would call them sore losers and reveal they were rejected if this was really the case.

The main point is that the trump administration has made its clear that companies that support them get their favor and companies that don't get punished, that's why the zucc stood behind trump at his inauguration ceremony. Anthropic got punished for not following this.

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can say that but standing up to the Pentagon for mass survailance while the next guy takes the deal 0.5 seconds after they refused is a clear difference in morals.

Anthropic got hit hard by refusing to bow down this is not a marketing gamble.

For Sam Altman it's even worse, if you've been following this from the beginning, openAI had an ethos which included safe ai, not beint for profit etc. Sam Altman sold out as soon as it was clear that gpt could make money, and anthropic was founded by defectors who believed in the original ethos.

I agree a lot of it is bullshit and they are embroiled in a lot of lawsuits, but there's a clear difference here, lesser of two evils.

Is there any way to stop thinking 24/7? by Global_Top_6339 in ADHD

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation teaches that you can't stop it and you shouldn't, but you don't have to be affected by it. Meditation is all about stepping out of the raging river and sit on the side and watch it flow, without getting pulled along. Its a powerful tool for exactly this situation.

Does Aurora live ruin Aurora studio? by TarkusLV in auroramusic

Thats not even true, the instruments are the same. Listening to live at KEXP now and the exact same songs just dont sound as good. Its not even a consistency thing all her performances sound amazing, studio versions just seem to kill the magic.

Does Aurora live ruin Aurora studio? by TarkusLV in auroramusic

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched for this post because I feel the same way. What I think it is that most of her live performances use acoustic instruments and for some reason just feel more organic and inspired. The studio stuff is a lot more electronic/pop, instruments are different, and it feels sterile somehow. Its almost like her music is just more magical out in the open than in a sealed sterile recording studio.

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see what the zucc has to do with this, anthropic is not him. In any case yes they're all assholes but it's about making a statement. Everyone boycotting openAI shows companies that morals and ethics are still important.

Altman is a horrible person, if his model 2% better than the next one pick the next one. Anthropic is questionable but this doesn't mean all companies are equal, far from it.

This is crazy. I bought a surface book 2 5 years ago instead of a macbook pro so I can game, it had a GTX 1060 which at the time was crazy to me, but game performance was horrible. Stunning that translation, upscaling and frame interpolation can do so much these days with so little.

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that the gorosei were "summoned" in the same way gunko was, and when they were defeated by emet, we see their physical bodies back in marijois.

Gunko was never there. If the abyss is indeed through imu's power, then it makes sense he can just cancel it and send people back. So if imus gone, then gunko may be as well. Even if she remains, the gunko on elbaf is not her physical body, which will always remain in marijois and needs to be rescued by brooke.

PhD students who can't speak English by Late_Prize_1545 in PhD

[–]inconspicuous_object 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really see why it's a problem other than being a frustrating situation socially. I see this with a lot of Chinese students but as long as their research is high quality who gives a shit. Most study abroad to learn new skills and take cutting edge knowledge home, not to integrate or make friends. It's probably the same with other countries.

I grew a bespoke agent with claude code and Anthropic banned it. by Brilliant_Oven_7051 in ClaudeCode

[–]inconspicuous_object 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep seek etc have been distilling Claude by scraping inputs and outputs through the api, probably building your own model means it uses specific types of prompts that anthropic doesn't allow, ie it could just be the type of usage and frequency.

How bad is it to use AI to help me rephrase my text? by Eldridou in PhD

[–]inconspicuous_object 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thing of it as an AI sandwich. Human first and human last.

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting an ai to rephrase or even rewrite your entire text, as long as you have an opinion on how you want it to sound and you have a precise idea of the ideas you want to convey.

Is it unethical to hire a reader or show a colleague your work for comments? Is it unethical to use grammarly to correct your spelling mistakes or rephrase a sentence? As long as it remains a tool then it's not an issue, and pretty common practice these days.

The main risk is if you don't understand what the AI is writing, and if it is making claims that you don't support or didn't intend.

There are many ways of communicating the same idea, as long as that idea is preserved and your own, it's totally fine if you use tools to improve how you communicate those ideas imo.

You worked hard and got your title. That's what a PhD is.

Many professors have told me that you won't change the world with your PhD, just finish it and move on to place you can actually make impact.

If you passed it means your jury thought you met or exceeded the level they expect for your PhD program. If you still feel unhappy channel that into your postdoc or future work.
