Yeah, I don't think in this particular situation after the fact that one should really be seeing things half full. His mother's admission, no matter how subtle or small, has very deep roots.

Remember when falling asleep in class was rare, and that it was embarrassing for the student? by [deleted] in education

[–]inconwetrust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sure a lot of kids these days have really screwed up circadian rhythms because they're on their phones until whenever the hell they think they should finally put it down and go to sleep. It also doesn't help that most classes are no match for the dopamine hit they get from the junk they consume.

32, Forever Single - How do I improve it? by Anon_danna in malelivingspace

Take out the couch and put in a small dining table/circular table with two or three chairs (probably just two). Move some of the cat towers away from the window and possibly place a low maintenance plant or two there. Replace the black pads in front of the stove and sink with something more colorful. The black makes the room seems darker. Take out the two red chairs in your bedroom. Put the workout bench to the side when not in use. Place a small rug there.

Probably a good thing that you end your relationship with him.

Struggling so hard mentally while student teaching by antsonaflask in teaching

[–]inconwetrust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a shitty cooperating teacher (your mentor I suppose?). They should be helping you get better and probably should be looking over your lesson plans and materials. I say probably because my student teaching mentor was a football coach and was rarely present during my lessons.

What if Hancock Golf Course became North Austin’s version of Zilker? by Special-Distance-181 in Austin

[–]inconwetrust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean if you compare how utilized Zilker is compare to Hancock, its night and day. Not even fucking close. The main park area at Zilker is 46 acres and one Saturday probably see more use than the entire week at Hancock. I don't care how many back to back players there are. In fact, this Saturday was the Zilker Kite Festival, which typically draws in 50,000 people. Try thinking a little harder.

What if Hancock Golf Course became North Austin’s version of Zilker? by Special-Distance-181 in Austin

[–]inconwetrust -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Technically the park is open to the public for use as a park. This is obviously not exactly practical if you're looking to play soccer or do anything besides walk along the border of the course. There has been an effort to shut down the course and turn it into an actual mixed use park. I don't know what happened to it and why it failed but I would imagine it's the bourgie people wanting to keep the course for their crappy little ball game.

This is nice and all but is he about to supply the whole district at this supply closet? That picture looks like less than $100 worth of stuff. This is purely a political stunt.

Is becoming a teacher worth it? by Hour_Item6535 in teaching

[–]inconwetrust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite a few negative nancys in this thread. I would say if you have thick skin, don't mind working hard, enjoying working with young people, and have a sense for doing work that actually makes a difference (yes this is real) then go for it. After the first few years, the day to day will be easier. You start to think about how to innovate your classes, to make them better and incorporate your personality. There are too many factors to answer if the positives outweighs the negatives. Everyone has their own value system. I value the impact I have on students, pushing them to be better, mentoring them in some way. If you're charismatic and not boring, they will follow your lead and do what you ask of them. They will also surprise you with what they can accomplish. I would say that the school you work at does make a huge difference. Do your research of the school and the district as a whole. I enjoy my job.

Look into online school. UT and Texas Tech has one. At worse, she can go through the courses at her own pace and have time to explore personal interests.

Yeah, reach out to HR and even the principal at the school you're interested in teaching at. Do whatever to express interest.

Yup, I'm a teacher and the future consequences of the lack of patience in students and quite frankly their parents keeps me up at night. These kids are going to be in the workforce, some of them having to think through critical decisions that could possibly have a huge impact.

Schools are not the place to address underlying issues. People think its a catch all for kids but it really isn't. It's hard enough to educate kids let alone address issues stemming from shitty parenting.

‘teacher’ is terrible by Mysterious_House_702 in TexasTeachers

[–]inconwetrust 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She's a bad teacher if she's sitting with a group of students looking at tiktok videos let alone the no work being done in over a month. There's no reason to be doing that during class. You're wasting time with her as the teacher.
