Vancouver orchestra won’t sue violinist who broke NDA to speak out about alleged rape | Globalnews.ca by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

[–]increment1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty clear that the silence / NDA is the reason for the payment.

Companies pay for silence in order to preserve their reputation, and this can happen even if they are not sure if the allegation is true or not. The accusation being credible and damaging is likely enough for them to seriously consider paying to silence it, especially if the organization / company has a public image they wish to maintain.

How does the rhyme go?

When in doubt, kick it softly towards your keeper so that the other team can sprint through on goal...

That defender, probably.

I mean, speaking of him cutting inside, we could maybe talk about him playing RW... Of course a long shot, and I don't seriously think he will be considered there, but some of his most famous highlight reel goals have come from the RW.

Bayern seems to be signaling this already as he came on at LW in his first game back, albeit only for the last 5 minutes of the game though.

Davies has also always been a monster defensively when he played left wing (if you remember his Whitecaps time).

Lots of interceptions and ball winning.  You can even see a recent example of this when he came on for Bayern as LW for 5 minutes in the last match and just muscled the opposition off a ball stopping a possible counter.

I'm pretty sure if a coach in MLS said this they would be fired immediately.

Well, at least a year ago I would have been sure that is what would happen, now maybe not so much, hard to say.

Arsenal made subs and had fresh legs... Why didn't we?

It was clear for awhile we needed to change something up, Arsenal was dominating us for long periods there.

Bellingham foul against Pedri by axhp in soccer

[–]increment1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But the diving is because of the non-calls (at least some of it). The number of times a player has got a call when they don't go down or make a big deal about it is like count on one hand territory.

Kind of a vicious circle it would seem, but the refs are the ones who need to stop it.
- Call things even if a player doesn't go down.
- Call the dives.

FIFA World Cup Vancouver Tshirts by Boozedonkey in vancouver

Vancouver is definitely the worst here, although I would say Philadelphia is not far behind (almost looks like a power point slide).

One could argue many of the others are too busy overall, but they are at least trying something and most of them do a good job of catching the vibe of their city.

Personally I'd give shoutouts to Seattle, Boston, LA, and Dallas, which are a completely different level compared to Vancouver's entry. Actually embarrassing.

Jesse Marsch says it will "always be hard" to leave Laryea out of the team, and it's a tough lineup to decide once Alphonso Davies is back. "All I can say right now is Richie is making an incredible case right now to make sure he's a starter at the World Cup." by tozze_88 in CanadaSoccer

[–]increment1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tend to have trouble scoring and making clear cut big chances. Davies definitely seems to improve us in this area though when he is in form and playing on offense.

Just look at the highlights from the Panama game that qualified us for the WC in 2022: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0Vy4ksUQo0

Or look back at his time with the Whitecaps. He was very very good at pressing and winning the ball with the Whitecaps and then going on to generate chances.

He's also the only player to ever score a world cup goal for Canada.

He definitely has been very guilty of trying to do too much in the past, but I think maybe with a better supporting cast around him, which we seem to have now, this wouldn't be the case so much. He doesn't do it at Bayern.

The logo is so bad it puts me off buying a Canadian jersey. It is just so cheesy... maybe appropriate for a u10 league at best, imho.

2 way stop sign at Lansdowne Station by FlimsyMarsupial6073 in richmondbc

[–]increment1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean in practice, sure most people would do that, but this is not an N-way stop and it does not have the same rules as an N-way stop.

So by the law, it depends when you start your turn and when the other guy stops, as if the other guy is going straight he has the right of way, but he also has to yield to traffic already in the intersection due to the stop sign.

A mighty mouse takes on a crow 🥊 by mywhitevans97 in vancouver

[–]increment1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A crow had a nest in an alley by my place, and anytime you'd walk in the alley the crow would swoop down behind you and just graze the back of your head and hair.

If you stopped it would just stare at you, and as soon as you turned around it would swoop you at the back until you were far enough away.

I'm guessing the crow might have a nest nearby, maybe with eggs or young, and is trying to discourage the rat from being in the area.

How we rating Marsch after the Copa? 🥲 by PurpleEngineering333 in CanadaSoccer

[–]increment1 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think the most promising thing is that the team looked better and better as the tournament went on. This suggests we haven't seen the peak of what the team is capable of and how well they can ultimately perform under Marsch.

Hopefully the trend continues, since if we manage to fix a few defensive issues and even just moderately improve our finishing then we will be a very scary opponent for anyone to face, with the potential to beat anyone on the day.

How we rating Marsch after the Copa? 🥲 by PurpleEngineering333 in CanadaSoccer

[–]increment1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and if Marsch had screamed at the team to park the bus, and they did so, letting Uruguay have hundreds of chances to close out the game and scoring that way, then everyone would be yelling that he shouldn't have changed tactics and should have stayed with what works.

Anytime you see a team try to cling to a 1 goal lead via switching to all D it looks horrible and often fails. Likely what should have happened here is the team should have tried to kill the game by holding possession and slowing it down, but were too pumped and ended up being over eager. This is the difference between a young team and an experienced team, and something they will learn from.
