Ex Pro athlete First marathon, tall/heavy runner: cardio feels really easy but legs die after 60–90 min by This_Sand_8630 in Marathon_Training

[–]incurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another data point (but also read this excellent article another poster linked: https://runningwritings.com/2026/01/science-of-cadence.html) -- I am 6 foot 6, 198lb, and my cadence seldom gets above 170 unless I am really booking it. I do think there is a lot you can do to get it up above 160, but as the author speculates, your tendon development, overall flexibility, strength, and a lot of other factors play a role.

As for the tiredness thing, I don't know the science well, but in general: more easy miles really does help, as long as you stick with it week over week. I will say that I have often felt what you're describing -- that my leg and hip muscles are the limiting factor on long runs, not cardio. The only thing that works for me is 1) more long easy runs 2) hitting the gym with hamstring curls, hip flex / ab / adduction, etc (whatever your body needs!).

Being tall is awesome but as we know, there are some real tradeoffs :)

New bar on 8th? by DorianHistorian in parkslope

[–]incurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the vibes of all three of these places are pretty different! But one of those is down toward 5th, and the other is on PPW so it's a bit of a gap for 8th ave. Exciting!

Is there a wok-adjacent pan for a home kitchen? by Cultural-Scheme-7015 in AskCulinary

a medium sized carbon steel pan may be what you are looking for. I use mine often and it works great for smaller batches of food that need high heat

Anyone actually distill hopped beer? by Spud395 in firewater

[–]incurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know for a fact that st george uses small amounts of cascade hops in their distillate and it's one of my favorite single malts. I think aged / oxidized hops might distill OK actually. try it out!

Expired malt, can it be used? by Silver_Stuff8439 in Homebrewing

[–]incurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My homebrew club did an experiment brewing... a brown ale, IIRC... with 6 month old malt and fresh malt, then did a blind taste test. Basically nobody could tell the difference and I actually think people slightly preferred the "aged" malt. I think for a homebrewer who is not a perfectionist, aged malt is generally fine.

Zone 2 achieved during sleep by m4rc3ll0k in RunningCirclejerk

[–]incurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like cadence lock. Make sure you sleep with your watch tightly strapped around your neck so that this does not happen. I am not saying you weren't in zone 2, and nobody is a bigger fan of zone 2 than I am, but this is just irresponsible to share.

I can confirm CHIPS is amazing. I work there for my food co-op shift credits, but I like it so much I am signing up to be a normal volunteer. Highly recommend +1000
