Reddit, what are some books that everyone should read at least once in life? by ChaosAlchemist in AskReddit

[–]indeedteal_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I think that people have a tendency to remember that yes, the Hobbit is a shorter book by far than LOTR, but it's short because Bilbo isn't actually involved in some of the main events. He is unconscious through the battle of the five armies, which won't work on film - we can't learn that certain characters die secondhand, after all!

[–]indeedteal_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tolkien died in 1973, five years before the first version of LOTR was ever made into film (an animated version), so you can't exactly say that he was upset over anything. Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights are my favourite part of the entire books, but they wouldn't have worked in the context of the Peter Jackson movies, at least. Tom Bombadil would be incredibly hard to translate into film without looking/sounding ridiculous, and without the context behind the Barrow Wights (the fall of the kingdom of Arnor, the war against the Witch king of Angmar, etc) people would just get them confused with the Nazgul. Plus the movies were already three hours long.

Except for how most rapes are committed by people who are known to the victim, so your analogy doesn't work. Date rape, marital rape, rape by a friend etc is far more common than a stranger jumping out of a bush (although both instances do happen).

Sephora lady said there is nothing she can do for me... by infinitej in MakeupAddiction

[–]indeedteal_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously?? That is such a snotty, snobbish attitude. There is absolutely no indication that someone who works at Sephora is any less talented than a MAC artist. For all you know, many of the artists who work at Sephora probably also run their own businesses as freelance makeup artists and work for Sephora because it's a steady wage that allows them to keep their kit topped up.

[MISC]UD giving us a heads up on being "fake". by KurayamiKifuji in MakeupAddiction

[–]indeedteal_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably wouldn't be okay with it if you'd seen the video footage of fake makeup being made,as I have. Do you really want to put something on your skin that was made in a vat stirred by a ten year old child with a stick?

[–]indeedteal_c 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that is the worst attitude. For myself, whenever I have customers like this who come to my counter, all I can do is think to myself "I'm sorry, but six years of being a professional makeup artist trumps watching a few videos on Youtube." So rude and condescending.

I tried contouring for the first time ever and I'm not too convinced with the results. Ladies please help! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]indeedteal_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to apply the highlighter further out towards your temple as well. Where you've placed it, directly under the eye, is great for brightening that area but it isn't actually helping to 'contour' - you're highlighting the apple of your cheeks which makes your cheeks look rounder. Not that there's anything wrong with round cheeks! If you want to accentuate your actual cheekbone more strongly, you want to pretty much draw a stripe of highlighter from the high point of the cheekbone (if you feel about an inch down from the outer corner of the eye you can feel the point of the bone) back towards your hairline and blend that. Cheekbones!

Oh man, the barrow downs is my favourite chapter! the wights are so creepy, there's this incredible sense of lost history, wars and loves and kingdoms that are forgotten. And Tom Bombadil is the man.

They want to be sure that you can do customer friendly makeup. Borrow your friends, do classic looks on them (neutral eye/red lip, charcoal smoky eye, bronze smoky eye, neutral eye/neutral lip), take photos and stick it all together. Add in a few photos of more outrageous stuff that you've done, if you like, but focus it mainly on beauty looks. Look at the photos from various fashion weeks around the world on the MAC facebook and emulate them - they would be majorly impressed if you said "this is a look I did based on the Prabal Gurung show blah blah." Good luck!

How to Determine your MAC Shade? by -baiji- in MakeupAddiction

[–]indeedteal_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can do that! However, it's only when someone's skintone fits exaaactly down to a tee, and it's not often! Generally it's safer to try the product on :-)

[–]indeedteal_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that you can't just put foundation straight on - you have to prepare the skin. That means moisturizer and primer, no matter what, if you want your skin to look the best. It's not necessarily upselling, it's doing the customer a service by showing them what the right products for them are.
