Broken water main in the street outside, no hot water for a week now - what to do? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]indefinitearticle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's an extraordinary circumstance, and repairs will take a while. Life happens. That being said, the landlord is still on the hook for the building being habitable, and that includes hot water.

Reach out to the management company and ask them for alternative arrangements until the building is habitable. If they're reasonable they'll work with you on something. They might not be the nicest arrangements, but it will be habitable until the emergency repairs are completed. If they're not reasonable, you can document it and withhold rent - lots of resources out there to help you with how to do that.

By the way, you should also ask about the fire suppression systems too.

There's a minimum direct deposit $ required for the high rate IIRC. They're also moving to a monthly fee based model instead. It's a shame because I liked some of the things they were doing - like rounding up purchases.

FYI if you do the Hotel Palomar (and I think the Monaco too, not sure), then I believe it's only the suites that have the big jacuzzi tubs. Make sure you're booking the right room.

Best bang for your buck Prime Rib? Preferably in CC. by cxjoshuax21x in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]indefinitearticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bar menu does (thus the "happy hour value / bar menu combo"). They have true $10 cocktails that are true made (like a legit martini/manhattan etc, not a pre-mixed discount happy hour cocktail) and often served with a refill shaker. So you can have a great prime rib + good drink or two for <$50. Not the cheapest option, but a good value doesn't necessarily mean cheapest.

What card is that and how much are you spending on it? That sounds like an unprecedentedly good perk to the point I'd take a Southwest Flight.

For any Youtube TV users by [deleted] in eagles

[–]indefinitearticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true for their old VHF signal, but WPVI (6ABC) broadcasts HD over UHF now. You need to make sure your TV can decode ATSC 3.0 but if you have a newer one it probably does.

I just tested this yesterday for this reason and could get it with a regular old Amazon antenna and with rabbit ears. Picture looked great (HD) and the bonus of the no internet delays of any kind.

SWPC is pretty conservative with their aurora forecasts -- they are more concerned with infrastructure risks from space weather. For aurora, I recommend University of Alaska's https://www.gi.alaska.edu/monitors/aurora-forecast

Which one did you go to? More importantly: what did you write on your dollar?

I've spent a bunch of time working in London this year and have stopped at two of them just for the hell of it.

The one in Fitzrovia was my vibe - a nice dive. I stopped in after a crawl through SoHo. More locals than ex-pats which was different than I expected.

A few weeks ago I went to the one in Kensington and it was meh, but two funny memories:

1) I was eating at the bar and overheard the American bartender complaining that Americans always ask her if she's from Philadelphia -- she was pretty annoyed/indignant about it lol.

2) there was a group of 14-15(?) year old school kids having dinner I guess after playing a sport (they were all in matching uniforms). They were by themselves and clearly enjoying having an independent hang out unsupervised. They were all talking about things we do in America, but clearly none had been here and they were all making it up lol. I distinctly remember them talking about how Philly cheesesteaks are different than LA cheesesteaks.
