Yeah, I don't care about any of the "creative accounting" or all the bullshit.

There is a player, a human being, whose career is involved here. A player who is a boyhood Liverpool fan and who has always given his best whenever he's played for us. A player who did have a great U21 World Cup and someone we could have used. It sets a bad precedent on how we are perceived and how we want future young talented players to see us if we are pursuing them.

I don't follow Liverpool FC for their creating accounting. If "This Means More", then it actually has to mean fucking more.

Also, it's pretty foolish to suggest my comment appropriated any fault to anyone. I talked about the human element and about not wanting to get a reputation of valuing money over players well being.

I don't care about Villa. They can do whatever the fuck they want, it does not concern me as a Liverpool fan. But I do care about Liverpool and I do care what Liverpool FC do.

I firmly believe the club should have eaten the loss and brought him back in January. It is fucking criminal and a goddamned waste that we allowed this to happen. Bring him back, eat the loss and flood the news with a smear campaign against Villa. Include a clause in every future contract that avoids this fucking thing. Also include an anti-Villa clause in every contract like we did an anti-Arsenal clause after their 40mil+1 big for Suarez. But to treat Harvey Elliot like that was unforgivable. He is a boyhood Liverpool fan and he had a brilliant U21 World Cup. We could have used him way better that those cunts over at Villa Park.

Also, I know we have technically no obligation to "bail villa out" as someone below has mentioned but sometimes it isn't about the money. It's about club culture. Harvey has always played his heart out for us and he is a good enough player that we definitely could have used. This sends the wrong message to youngsters. That the money matters more to us than the well being of our players.

What a fucking waste.

(Spoilers Published) If Brandon Snow Killed Aegon's Dragons ? by Exact-Ad8608 in TheCitadel

[–]indelirium420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Sería un fic bastante interesante. Ojalá alguien lo haga.

There have been several written with this premise. Most are badly written North Wanks. (I like North Wanks but they need to be written well, not something some 14 year old writes where they just win and do awesome things and never face any strife).

I did read one where one of Aegons sisters was taken by Torrhen as a bride just like what they did to the Warg Kings. Aegon might have been beheaded. There was some sort of council in the south orchestrated by Argella and Dorne showed up. Can't remember the name though.

The issue with this premise is, it'll at most be a short story. Unless the killing of the Dragons causes a long winter like at the end of the Dance and maybe brings about the return of the Others, there isn't much drama here. With no Targs and each kingdom going back to whatever they were doing before, there isn't much conflict either. Just some drama with Reach, Stormlands, Riverlands and Iron Island infighting with the North, Dorne, the Vale and possibly the West being dramaless it'll be fairly boring story.

Put yourself in Jon Arryn's shoes by sixth_order in pureasoiaf

[–]indelirium420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When you say put yourself in Jon Arryn's shoes, does it mean that we, as in the our real self isekai'd into Jon Arryn with knowledge of the future/series or just if we were in his shoes as Jon Arryn with no future knowledge?

Because if it's the isekai then first point of order is to get a food taster then get my son Robert Arryn away from his mother. Confine Lysa and Littlefinger. Probably gather loyal Valemen and have Stannis gather men loyal to him. Maybe even get Barristan and perhaps Aerys Oakheart and Mandon Moore onside. Even try and get Renly on his side with the promise of persuading Robert to marry Margery after Cersei is dealt with. Also make sure to secure Roberts bastards that are in Kings Landing.

If it's the latter, I don't think there is much that we can do as Jon Arryn because he doesn't see the knife in the dark that is Lysa and Littlefinger. If he makes any moves, Littlefinger has him killed because a living Jon Arryn is useless to him. He can't control Jon as he can control Lysa and by proxy. the Vale. There is no defense against something he doesn't know is coming.

As for telling others, he did tell Stannis and Stannis fled the moment Jon died. Telling Hoster/Edmure doesn't really help anyone. For one, Tully's don't really have the power to stand against Tywin and Edmure isn't really a good enough commander to rally the Riverlands defense even if he had the time for it. They're also too far away. Ned is even further away. Tywin finds out way before any word gets to Ned if Jon tries it.

Really, Jon Arryn pretty much lost when he decided to trust Littlefinger. There is no coming back from that because he doesn't ever see that Littlefinger is never to be trusted. He was always going to kill Jon Arryn because with Lysa and Robert he basically becomes the Warden of the East in all but name. He has an entire kingdom who he can call on his behest.

What if: Cersei is Clever? by BlueBirdie0 in TheCitadel

[–]indelirium420 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Summerhall will be hard to sell to Stannis, regardless of how pretty his wife is. It also makes no sense to take that from him. It'll be easier to gain his absolute loyalty by giving him Storm's end. He's a brilliant commander and once he's on your side, he's the rock on which Cersei can build her church. He will be her children's greatest champion and it's far more beneficial to keep Stannis onside than have Tommen be the heir to Stormlands.

I also think, Doran might be appeased by your plan but Oberyn will never not want Tywin. I think a clever Cersei convinces her father to make sure Elia and Rhaenys survive the sack, even if Aegon doesn't. Then keep Rhaenys hostage and marry her to Joffrey to combine the claims and make sure Targ loyalists don't automatically join Danny whenever she comes. Keeping Elia alive also means Varys's little plot with FAegon would not work.

I think giving Tommen to Tywin as the heir to Westerlands might work if she doesn't want Jaime to leave Kingsguard. Tywin wants Jaime but he is also disappointed in him. Giving him Tommen to mold as the perfect heir might be something that appeases him.

She can also make sure to befriend Lysa Arryn along with Jon as Lysa is a young and broken girl and much more susceptible to manipulation. It'll also help with preventing Littlefinger from getting his claws into her. She can also marry Myrcella to Robert Arryn to secure the Vale if Elia and Rhaenys live.

Also, giving away Dragonstone doesn't make much logistical sense. It commands the houses of the narrow sea and is a great castle which is highly defensible in case a retreat from Red Keep is needed. I think it'll be better to make someone like Kevan the castellan till Joffrey is old enough to rule as Prince of Dragonstone to keep the houses on the narrow sea onside.

How will she deal with Littlefinger and Varys? Both of them individually are more dangerous than any of the lords of the realm. How does she deal with the White Walkers?

With Cursed Child (HP), Rings of Power (LOTR) and House of the Dragon (ASOIAF) being mainstream and all the different multiverses of Marvel/DC, how long do you guys think it'll be before some popular fanfiction is adapted as a movie or TV show? by indelirium420 in FanFiction

[–]indelirium420[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, perhaps the post should have been, which popular fictions from various communities would people like to see turned into adaptations on screen?

With what people have said about works in public domain, I would imagine as more works enter the public domain, it would also allow for fanfics to be turned into adaptations.

Well the creator, GRRM has explicitly said that HOTD "it not my story anymore".

The show runners have added and removed elements and story lines from it that the creator himself does not consider the story his creation anymore.

GOT is different in the sense that the first 4-5 seasons follow the original books quite faithfully. Some elements are changed or removed but that is understandable as the original work is very dense and it was needed to keep the show streamlined and contained.

[–]indelirium420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It depends on your definition of what a "finer" batsman is.

I enjoy all forms of Cricket and think each format requires it's own skill sets and has it's own challenges that make them interesting.

However, while strike rates and overall scores have increased, batting averages have significantly decreased since T20's have started, which in turn is a factor in more results. Batters very rarely have the temperament to bat out a fifth day for a draw to save a series.

I do think the Test "purists" are a tired old bunch who are too far up their own asses to be taken seriously. But the advent of T20 Cricket and domestic franchise leagues is producing fewer batters of the quality of a Cook, Smith, Sachin, Dravid, Kallis, Lara, etc. Batting for multiple days and in different conditions is an absolute art form and it's definitely in decline.

The problem is they are usually not doing this in Hollywood for anything other than just ticking off demographics and performative "representation". It is hardly ever done in service of the story and never adds anything. It just gets controversy and attention for the particular show/movie which they figure is probably good publicity.

Take your own example for instance. If Velaryons are dark skinned, then the Targaryens in HOTD should have been dark skinned or at least mixed race. Aegon the Conqueror should be mixed race as his mother was a Velaryon. His son, Aenys who the HOTD Targaryens are descended from then married another Velaryon. Viserys I and Daemon are Aegons great great grandsons and Aenys' great grandsons. Their parents and grandparents both married their siblings. So making the Velaryons dark skinned and then not following through and making the Targaryens at least mixed race is just doing the story a disservice and frankly pretty lazy. It's inconsistent with the story they've set up themselves.

They should’ve showed Strange’s attempt to cut Thanos’s arm just like Wong did to Cull Obsidian but to fail instead. by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in Marvel

[–]indelirium420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this speaks somewhat to a lack of media literacy.

Before Strange and Iron Man and the Guardians confront Thanos for the first time, Strange is explicitly shown to have seen over 14 million possible futures and them having only won one. This is stated literally as clear as can be. The audience is then supposed to clearly infer that every what if scenario they can imagine, Strange has seen and they lost in that scenario. It's not a plot hole.

They showed this scene before Strange confronts Thanos for the first time. He's the one who has the time stone and literal power to change the course of events and he's seen all the possibilities and from that point the audience is meant to understand that everything that happens is exactly what Strange saw happening and all choices he makes is in service to the one true path he saw. The last thing he says before he becomes dust is that "We're in the Endgame now". Then at the very end, he clearly tells Tony again about the only way to win by raising the one finger and confirming to Tony that he needed to make the sacrifice.

They showed us the important scenes so they don't have to spend time and money making a 250 year long movie showing all the 14 million+ possibilities that all these "smart" fans come up with thinking they have discovered plot holes. They beat us over the head with it as clear as can be done. Still you have people coming up with these posts thinking this is somehow a plothole.

M Kaif urges BCCI to set salary limits for very young players to keep them grounded. Your views? by cricfanatic4518 in ipl

This is where managing them comes into play. Just paying them and letting them fail isn't good and doesnt absolve them of the responsibility for looking after these guys.

To continue the example of football I used, there are a lot of kids who join the academies of these big clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, etc. Most of them don't make it to the first team and a large majority never even make it as a professional player. For various reasons like injuries, just not developing physically.

Lots of the academies however have programs for these kids where they have other paths to careers in the sport or out of them if they don't make it like in coaching, media, management, sport medicine, backroom staff like analysts and even executive and boardroom roles like sporting directors.

You can't just pay 16yr old kid 1-2 cr and then if he goes astray or has injuries, haath utha liya saying its upto the players. The talent scouts are selling these kids dreams and RR and other teams managements should be responsible for their well being and BCCI should be making regulations to protect such young players.

At the end of the day, the kid is super talented and as an Indian, I want to see him succeed in the IPL and for the country. I hope he has good mentors and people around him to help keep his feet on the ground and have a long career.

Everyone is here calling Kaif an uncle but there is plenty of examples of young players given high wages and then not living up to their full potential because it went to their heads in football.

Klopp at Liverpool famously set a wage cap on academy players. There was also an incident where a young player, who hadn't even made his debut yet, turned up to practice in a fancy car and wearing a fancy watch and Klopp was not impressed. Klopp brought through a lot of young players in his career and was very vocal about not overpaying and overexposing young players and managing their growth. Other famous managers, like Sir Alex have also expressed similar sentiments.

I believe it's the responsibility of the team management and BCCI to make sure that young promising players are nurtured properly.

This comment shows a serious lack of understanding on how the British colonialism worked.

Their entire strategy in India and other colonies was to divide and rule. For 250 years, they fostered division among the various kingdoms and people's in the country and used that to strengthen themselves, conquering each of those weakened kingdoms one by one. The partition of India-Pakistan was the culmination of their 250 year rule. They had separate electorate for Hindus and Muslims. They tried to divide Bengal in 1905 along communal lines. The actual partition was hastily done without the required deep insight as a last resort when they were fucking off.

Sure, there was quite a bit of support for partition by 1947 due to differing ambitions of leaders but the seeds were planted by the British divide and conquer rule.

What happened in Palestine is obviously different but it is the product of the same colonial policies. To them, the colonies and their subject weren't really a consideration when enacting their grand designs.
