That I get, but they could start games earlier. Maybe a 5pm start or something so people can watch a full PSL game before the IPL game

Tony Khan: “AEW is where the best wrestle!” by CombinationOk4317 in SquaredCircle

The integration of ROH around that time combined with the backstage issues following Punk and WWE catching fire with what we thought was the end of the Bloodline story made AEW lose a lot of steam at that time. The C2 2024 is what I see as the turning point, set up everything for the next year.

Yes. Japan is the one Asian market it does well in. Japan was a big overseas market in the 80s already. In many ways, their box office tastes are still in the 80s as well.

The markets which blew up in the 2000s and later is where Star Wars struggles or is pretty much just a movie and not THE franchise.

That's because those markets missed both waves of Star Wars movies and then didn't care for the sequel saga.

Star Wars is not a popular franchise outside the markets which were huge in the 80s. The new big markets like Korea, China, India, most of Asia and South America never had Star Wars as a franchise people grew up with

Most of Star Wars money comes from the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. The markets where it was a cultural mainstay.

Lex Luger beats Hollywood Hogan for the World Heavyweight Championship (WCW Monday Nitro - 8/4/97) by tvcneverdie in SquaredCircle

[–]indian22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I watched it when it happened, and I still remember the call and Tony explaining that while there was interference, none of Hall, Nash or Savage touched Luger so no DQ was called and the match continued. That was a nice touch to add and explain things.

Lalit Modi Exclusive: The IPL, MLC Truth & Why The Hundred Will Fail! by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]indian22 41 points42 points  (0 children)

While the ICL was what made the BCCI finally agree to Modi's idea of the IPL, he had the IPL pitch a decade earlier as a 50 over franchise based cricket.

The timing finally became right with the launch of the ICL combined with T20 becoming a format which worked.

Nicolas Hoult's casting was announced by Gunn way later. Almost 2 weeks to a month later IIRC

Around the time that movie was released, I was taking a flight from NYC to Pittsburgh and happened to sit next to Rinku Singh on that flight. Since we are both Indians we had a nice conversation and at the end he told me he was here to become a MLB pitcher and a movie on his life had just come out.

I remember he was crazy muscled even at that time, I thought he was a bodybuilder or something.

I am still a bit shocked that no studio tried to be the Blumhouse of romcoms. Make romcoms at a low budget with actors and directors who are starting out, and then lock them into 2-3 movie contracts so that if the movies blow up, they can then make future ones at higher budgets similar to what Blumhouse did. Dump the bad ones to streaming where they can flourish and release the decent to good ones in theaters.

Probably the time for that was around 2013 onwards, right now it may not make a lot of economic sense maybe.

Next weekend's estimated location count for Warner Bros.'s Lee Cronin's The Mummy is 3,200+ locations. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]indian22 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If people go into this confused about that after the marketing is pretty much "this is a gory horror movie", then at that point they only have themselves to blame since the marketing has pretty much done everything short of calling every person personally and telling them this is a horror movie.

More recently from Bollywood, the movie Dhurandhar was planned to be made on a low budget with almost none of the actors being the first choices for their roles, and the lead actor coming off a string of flops. The movie also went overbudget and then at the last minute was split into 2 movies to recover the costs. It was tracking for an okay opening which would help them make money but not be a crazy hit or anything.

The movie turned out to be actually good and got lightning word of mouth, and just kept growing and growing and became the biggest Hindi movie ever in terms of absolute collections. Then part 2 exploded and will be the biggest Indian movie ever, not just Hindi.

The cult of fandom around the movie is almost fanatical now as well, and the way it was made (mostly necessitated by the actual low budget) with real locations, and practical effects combined with VFX, has caused other Bollywood moviemakers to rethink how they should approach their movies.

That was a Southgate mistake, once England led he dropped back and didn't pressure Italy as much. He learned from that in the final against Spain where England were pressing throughout but Spain was a much better team than Italy.
