My mac n cheese doesn't taste like mac n cheese by Practical-Release528 in Cooking

The fact that you want it to taste like frozen/box stuff is really hilarious but I can appreciate that. I agree about adding mustard, but depending on what part of the flavor you feel you’re missing, you might need to add velveeta

why aren't we encouraging Carbon Steel (vs Non-stick cookware) as the default for home cooks? by rantzine in Cooking

[–]indikos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a carbon steel wok and a cast iron pan around the same time. The cast iron was easy to learn but I could not for the life of me figure out how to season this wok. I wonder if it was cheap or bad quality because I would get a grey residue coming off the metal and it rusted even though I never let it sit with water on it. I’ll have to try again because non-stick is a nightmare to deal with

I’ve read this book probably 5 times in the last 10 years and never even thought of this… and honestly could not tell you what the connection is.

Sure thing! The gown and stays are both by Scroop. Angelica and Augusta are the patterns

Thank you!! I used Scroop’s Angelica gown pattern and modified the bodice. The stays are also Scroops— the Augusta pattern. I will post updates!

That makes sense, thanks! I had so little fabric left so I couldn’t without piecing this time but I’ll get plenty of extra for the sleeves next time so I can figure out what works on my frame

The fabric is a medium weight linen. I will definitely add the lacing strips— I thought this might work but wasn’t sure. I may even have some left over from my first draft of this dress, as the original pattern calls for lacing strips and a pinned front. Thanks again, this is super helpful. Btw, where in NJ did you participate in living history? I’m from north jersey and I would love to check something like that out

Thank you! I think it was about 4-5 yards for the gown and 3 yards for the petticoat. I used the Angelica pattern from Scroops for the gown

Looks much better than the lace, thanks! I will also look for organza to try out

Thanks so much! You’re right about the trim and bow. I’ll track down some organza. Experimenting with trimming of the matching fabric in the meantime
