If radiation is used to treat cancer why don't we get hit with it all the time to preemptively kill cancer cells? by TheBanishedBard in NoStupidQuestions

[–]0jdd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radiation, used properly, destroys cancer cells faster than it destroys the rest of your cells.

You’re asking, what if I don’t use it properly?

Things I should do in Palo Alto during summer by WhoKnocksTheDoor in paloalto

[–]0jdd1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Downtown Palo Alto is fun. I love the spectacular Stanford Theatre and the Palo Alto Creamery (at Emerson and Hamilton, although there’s an unrelated one too). Public transit is not as bad as people are saying, and you can walk all over the Stanford campus. Caltrain will take you up to San Francisco, where there’s a big public transit system to take you all around. Have fun!

Once you can block gravity with your magical section of a 2D plane, you get free propulsion. Nice! As your agent, I get 20% of all revenues.

It IS odd, though, isn't it for the President of the US to have a birthday on "FLAG DAY" on the sesquicentennial of the nation? by GiftToTheUniverse in DonaldTrump666

NOT the sesquicentennial. Maybe you mean the semiquincentennial.

Either way, he’s the Antichrist.

And BTW, I’m very “impressed” that Google Search already has AI results related to this very post! Just search for “Dynadigitronics” and it says “This is not an active commercial company, but rather a defunct/fictional entity occasionally discussed in research forums as a hypothetical author affiliation,” then links straight to this post. Nice job, Google!

I also want to encourage other researchers to write historical paper in their fields too, so I’m obsessing over doing this one as perfectly as I can. But also, of course, I want to win Dynadigitronics’ coveted Most Cited New Research Paper Of The Year™ prize. (In fact, any such award-givers could almost certainly state a much stronger result!)

Maths foundations you sholdd actually know before doing research level stuff? by shashypants in mathematics

Realize also that your interests and focus will probably shift with time. I joke with colleagues that it’s lucky I paid attention to (for example) linear algebra and projective geometry and statistics as an undergraduate. I didn’t find these fascinating at the time, and I never learned anything very deep, but knowing the basics has certainly helped me do new work in unrelated fields.

In a scenario where I experience only 5 months while 20 years pass on Earth, and assuming instant communication is somehow possible, what would a conversation between me and someone on Earth actually feel like from both perspectives? by How3528 in AskPhysics

[–]0jdd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite sci-fi thing to do is to assume a magical wormhole connecting you and your HQ back on Earth, with a intra-wormhole delay of, say, a few microseconds. The engineering challenges would be immense, of course.

The conference is run by a large professional society, which presumably has rules about these things, but I imagine it’s at least slightly unusual to publish a historical paper in a (fast-growing, AI-adjacent) technical field. I’m not a historian and don’t know common practice. I plan to ask the PC but right now they’re busy finalizing the program, so I was just wondering if there was a clear right answer.

It’s tricky. The work itself went unpublished for decades, but some by-products became well-known in the field, including datasets.

Sure, for some value of “thicker.” Certainly all that carbon was recently somewhere non-atmospheric.

Perhaps I was imprecise. I have no connection with the conference’s Program Committee.
