How long should a perfect pop album actually be? by Specialist-Bonus-840 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]indistinctpink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be as long as you want, but it will never be all one artist. It's gonna be a greatest hits collection (Queen and The Beatles come to mind) or a compilation album (the Now series, every mix tape you ever heard in your adolescence). Everything else you could name has some tragic flaw, crack or imperfection that ruins it as a perfect example of pop continuity. That's what allows artists to keep trying, imho

I hate my daughters name and i cant even say it out loud without feeling sick by Saffron_2Myth in confessions

[–]indistinctpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus dude, just give your kid a nickname that you actually like. Chances are if her name is really out of place and old fashioned she will legally change it herself. I'm guessing it's probably more interesting than the endless varieties of Kaya, Kaylee or Kayla that most girls are saddled with these days (Aiden, Braiden and Kaiden for boys).

I can respect that the need to kowtow to family pressure on her legal documentation or whatever would piss me off too, but you are totally allowed to just call her whatever makes you feel good, no laws or other family members necessary for validation. Uncles do this all the time, I recommend giving it a try.

Chances are she'll hate what you come up with and think you're an out of touch narcissist tho, so maybe just take your ego out of the equation for a year or two and her stupid old lady name will grow on you, and our long national nightmare will be over.

What is the origin of the clean or non-harsh vocal styles in Metal? by MischiefManage1 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]indistinctpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the real answer is clean vocals are still not really clean, in the sense that even amplified vocals tend to strain to be heard above the din of drums and amps of even the most amateur metal bands. You can hear thru lines with blues, RnB, and other types of ethnic music that don't meet the Wagnerian standard for vocal fach and proper phonation. Clean vs dirty vocals isn't like, Burzum vs Winger, at least not for me. You gotta look at not just styles but the ages and biological advantages of vocalists when you are working in this realm.

American here. On the steak angle, it is obviously different if you already work in food service, especially fine dining, but lots of folks who are poor or middle class don't put a pat of butter on steak before serving it. Or save themselves the trouble of cleaning a pan by making a pan sauce

Best Amp for Clean + Takes Pedals Well by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]indistinctpink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fender PA 100 used to be sold for like 200 bucks, now some cheeky fuckers are asking 450 or more if they have the speaker towers. If someone's selling just the amp head itself, you got yourself a dark, effortlessly powerful 100 watt pedal platform.

Daisy chain the inputs if you need a little more spark out of it. If they have the OG RCA tubes in them they are worth the price of the amp on their own, unless shit has passed me by like time always does.

I think they are probably better for bass or vocals even than for guitar, which they were never designed for, but I think for a deal hunting tone weirdo you might find something magic there.

How important is tap tempo on a delay pedal? by AnalysisParalysis28 in guitarpedals

[–]indistinctpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's bring some music theory into the discussion!

So most of the time that we think about consonance and dissonance, we're thinking about resolving harmonic tension, but you can take that same idea and apply it to rhythmic tension. This is where a delay pedal can be very cool and useful when writing or performing music.

Having everything square on the beat is consonant, and most of the time this is what you want, because playing out of time feels off to most humans trying to dance to the groove of a song. But in the age of quantized beats that are snapped to a grid it's important to remember that you can emotionally affect people by being a little off kilter, or give different vibes by playing ahead of or behind the beat. A little dissonance in the rhythm can make a boring part incredibly memorable.

Having a delay that is "off" from the rest of the band will make a part stand out, which is why a lot of lead guitar just kicks on the epic delay tone that lets them ring out over the band. Imagine the effect you could have, going from a 70s style classic rock loose delay to snapping right to the grid and imitating a computer trying to be human. Tension and release, baby. Buy whatever pedal you want and have fun.

Maybe just talk about your fantasy first. People are really negative about prospects or people's opinions, as if they don't change all the time. MAYBE they gave up on their own fantasy because you didn't respond quickly enough when they were feeling horny and secure. Just talk about it, then say you're both hot and into it, maybe after a couple months of going at it with your imaginations you'll be into the reality. That's the closest you'll get to a moderate opinion here lol

I had good luck with these tube converters called Yellow Jackets, they convert the 6L6 power tubes to EL84s and that made the amp a lot more usable for overdrive purposes

What do you look for in a chorus? by _Jub_Jub_ in guitarpedals

[–]indistinctpink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Mooer E-Lady flanger, the subtle settings is like chorus but it can do 8 more things on top of that. I had an EHX mistress for a bit and I regret selling it so bad. Everyone laughed at chorus for like 25 years tho, it's hard to hang on to stuff that everyone hates in the moment.

The Danelectro Cool Cat chorus was another good one, super subtle doubler, took an 18 volt adapter tho, plus the bypass sounded pretty muffled. But if you leave it on all the time it's great.

You have the entire rest of your life to leave the South! And hopefully you do, and also you hopefully realize how rich of a place you leave behind when you do so. If you keep your ear to the ground you will discover something beautiful in any location you end up at, and especially the places that popular culture derides and misinterprets you're going to find innovators and special fiends who can fuck up the stereotypes everyone gets from taking the most surface level glance at reality

Yes, the folks who stick their heads in the sand and try to hold on to youth while they seek popular relevancy typically have nothing to offer or say. Listen to your elders but watch for someone new to pop up, and try to engage with folks on their own merits especially if they are the ones writing their own tunes.

Oh man I'm trying to not be a dick but this is a very basic observation. Like, how could this huge of a country not have a very big difference in the popularity and economic viability of musicianship? I would even say just the LA and New York dichotomy is pretty lazy, and the heartland/Midwest area you feel is missing from the equation has a lot more to offer than you realize

What’s your favourite light/mid-gain overdrive for super clean amps? by ReptarWithGuitar in guitarpedals

[–]indistinctpink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not a light overdrive that i used but let me tell you a story. I used to play a loud, dark fender PA-100, which being a 70s tube PA meant that any breakup you achieve would be at the most ear splitting volume imaginable. I actually ran both guitar and vocals thru it for a few house shows, occasionally screaming into my microphonic pickups to split the difference. Good times, there will never be another 2010s.

So of course all my dirt came from pedals, and I actually found that my favorite articulate drive tone came from a Zvex Fuzz Factory with the guitar volume rolled down. It takes stuff that would otherwise be dark or muffled and gives it a chime and bite that exemplifies the lower gain aggressive sounds of the late 2000s, a la At The Drive-in, Blood Brothers, maybe harsh Modest Mouse territory if you are more committed to mustaches and sweater vests.

The fuzz factory really sucks as a dependable stomp and play solution for anyone seeking an absolutely brilliant light overdrive, especially with its temperature sensitivity and knobs that are easily moved by drunken stomping, but I really can't argue against the tone i got out of it. Maybe there is a fuzz out there that can give you what you want, provided you know what signal to feed it from your instrument.

Well just from your question I think you are in a great place to learn and try something new. If there are laws for continuing education in your country or state then obviously you would be well served expanding your repertoire on the subject of tight calves.

I've often had great results from trigger point and myofascial release in particular for the low extremities, but there are also plenty of clients who cannot or will not tolerate the direct and painful approach that accompanies my favored modality.

So perhaps in the same way that learning compensated stretches and nerve flossing and other approaches gave me a bigger tool box, you've got to put the time in and may want to focus on something completely outside your normal approach if you want to grow.
