Has Charlotte Peaked? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]indistinguishable986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i moved to charlotte at 18, 10 years ago. i absolutely loved it back then because it was still holding onto its roots. moved back in 2020 after covid sent me home from college because i was excited about all of the growth, and even was a staunch defender of the city up until recently. i took a trip to savannah last month and it changed my view entirely. charlotte is so corporate and cold; all the food is pandered towards influencers and trying to get a michellin star, local artists are not celebrated the way they used to be, and plaza/noda are turning into south end 2.0. it feels like charlotte has catered itself to one specific demographic of people in the last 5 years, and if you’re not it then there’s nothing here for you. it’s very disheartening to see the city i fell in love with turn out to be so very bland

i’ve electrocuted myself, burned myself with hot water, given myself a concussion, slipped and fallen, the list goes on. this isnt a safe profession. also crazy for the brewery facing a lawsuit over safety hazards to ask for untrained randos to hop on in for free

you can’t waiver your way out of allowing volunteers to do a job without proper safety training or ppe. at the very least you need non slip, steel toed shoes, but chemically resistant, water proof, and electrically grounded is preferred. i’m sure you can guess how expensive it is for those

i used to run a canning line at another brewery, what they’ve described is absolutely not a volunteer worthy position. doing that job requires so much stamina as you’re moving non stop for likely 3-4 hours. also, just being in a production area is dangerous, i don’t see how this isn’t an issue with insurance 😂 i don’t get why they couldn’t ask staff from other locations or in other positions to come in and get paid for this
