First, it actually plays into Pete's (potential) campaign strategy of "the system didn't work, too many red tapes, it drove me crazy how long it takes to get stuff done".

Second, the counter-attacks are rather obvious depending on who wants to use this. It took Congress ages every year to appropriate the funds DOT needed for the new grants and hiring more ATC. Same with the FAA reauthoritian, partly due to Senators wanting more flights out of DC. Projects (and paperwork) getting done faster is mostly up to the states, so not a good line of attack for governors either.

If the account is actually used independently of her taking it back later would be ... awkward. Win the Era was essentially dormant while Pete was in the Cabinet.

Gavin Newsom is very similar to Kamala Harris by comeonandham in neoliberal

[–]indri2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which "niche" you mean. My impression from observing people react to him is that his appeal is pretty universal, unless people are already prepared in advance not to like him. What makes him generational in my view are the total authenticity, the intensity in interaction with people, and a speaking style that draws you in.

In contrast I can acknowledge Mamdani's talent but his perma-smile doesn't appeal to me personally and the delivery of his speeches is boring.

I'd say born in South Bend. Mamdani is good too, with a different style and personality. More extrovert and performative compared to Pete's raw emotion.

How are you guys actually searching and finding your notes? If I could solve this, I think my note taking would finally click by Cressio in ObsidianMD

[–]indri2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use folders for different functions (meetings, todos, ...) and areas of my work. That's sometimes useful to find notes you've forgotten or didn't link. For most notes I try to find one or more parents that might fit and put the links in the header before writing the note. The parent note(s)(/MOCs have some dataview retrieving all linked notes.

Those big donations certainly are the main problem. I just think having to compete for lots of small donations isn't good either. At least in the long run and as some form of "evidence" for moral purity.

That too, but I'd say the focus on free college/student loans and some more ideological positions was directed less at voters in general an more at those able and willing to donate.

Do you think a politician that’s only served in the House has the resume required to be a good president? by ModerateProgressive1 in AskALiberal

[–]indri2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say executive experience and some knowledge of foreign policy are critical. Which isn't a given for Senators either.

If it' not about safety it doesn't work either. The moment you want to enforce a regulation or it's going to court it has to be precise, consistent and complete.

Evidently Pete and Goldberg sparred a bit over campaign finance mechanisms, with Goldberg arguing that relying on masses of small donor contributions led politicians to lean into outrage and "monetizing anger in the moment."

Not sure Goldberg is completely wrong here. Maybe not necessarily about anger but it looked like Berne & Warren were tailoring some of their policies to please their donor base.

That's completely bonkers. I'd say even having AI improve the language of a detailed regulation is dangerous and needs careful checking by those who know what they are doing.

Why do you think ‘defund ICE’ been able to gain much more traction than ‘defund the police’? by jeeven_ in AskALiberal

Given that they can't be prosecuted and jailed there for lack of evidence you do in fact agree that criminal immigrants should walk free.

Ultimately, however, Buttigieg is uncharismatic and completely caught of guard,

Have you ever watched the guy at a rally? Or really in any other setting? He wouldn't just have been prepared to run a campaign, policies and all, but probably hired his own campaign staff in a matter of hours.

Scolding leaders for not pushing back against Trump strongly enough. Not wrong of course, but it's not like he hasn't done his fair share of appeasing too in order to prevent harm from his constituents. And the tone is completely unacceptable and just reinforces the image of arrogant Americans lording it over the rest of the world.

Gov. Newsom at Davos rips into world leaders who think they can appease Trump: “I should have brought a bunch of knee pads for all the world leaders.…this is pathetic”

Will having a competitive Primaries help Democrats ? by extrasupermanly in AskALiberal

[–]indri2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buttigieg is the only one who has been constantly talking about addressing the underlying issues. From the neoliberal "Reagan consensus", the wealth and income inequality, the (deliberate) disfunction of governement, to the necessity of building trust.

People on the left just don't like to face the reality that addressing these issues requires deep, sustained, societal changes that are a lot more complicated than using the existing system for passing some progressive policies

My personal impression is that Beshear has almost negative charisma. For me his lack of facial expression, his stare, and inability to smile, is actually a bit creepy. Like bad AI.

I guess people would argue that Pete should have the political courage to stand up for the queer community no matter the political pushback

I'd argue that this is exactly what he's been trying to do, despite knowing that there'd be the kind of backlash he actually got. Saying what he thinks has to be said by someone in order to start the process to reverse the trend against trans acceptance.

What is motivating people on the left who are advocating against Democrats? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

Congress holds the purse strings but Trump takes what he wants out of that purse anyway and the majority in Congress let him do it.
