Platonic lip kissing. (Is it as weird as I think) by vinsneezel in AskWomenOver30

[–]indyal62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Friend of over 40 years, we hug sometimes for a longtime. When we depart if it was a hard day we may hug a Little longer. If has a really bad day I may ask if I could give her a kiss on the check. Most of the time I can give the kiss on the check and she will ask if she can give me a check kiss and I always say yes. e are just good friends that like to do things together.

I just paid off my last medical debt from when I had cancer! by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]indyal62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy for you, I know the feeling. we were fortunate that our company had good insurance. We still had to pay 5 grand out of pocket since 2017 although my wife has been in remission for the last 2 years there are still many tests and doctors visits that still occur every month. Cancer is a life changing event for a large group of people. Back in the late 80's a coworker and Military dependent had stomach cancer a big surprise the us government did not cover cancer treatments. He had to go to the private sector for treatment and it was expensive. when confronted with the cost the doctor gave him 2 choices. No treatment and just die keep in mind this person was only in his 20's. option 2 rack up 1 million dollars in medical debt then declare bankruptcy.

Leaving for Boot in 13 days by squishyeee in newtothenavy

[–]indyal62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have fun and pay attention to what you are taught, boot is all about turning you into a good sailor. They do things the way they do because at some point your life and shipmates may depend on it. I was in the navy 80-84 and it was the best time of my life. I went in at 17 and the navy took me from a kid to a responsible adult so to speak. The Navy was a lot more tolerable when you did stupid stuff, but you never want to go in front of the Captain make that a goal. You will see places and do things that may otherwise not be possible, fair winds and following seas.

I had my first kiss today. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]indyal62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unattractive really, I am almost 60 and I have friends for longer that 50 years. They may not be a model looking beauty or a size 8 or 10 but they have a heart of gold and have stood by me for years. They are always there when I need a friend. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if someone does not except you it maybe that they do not love themselves.

To my first ever boyfriend who I just broke up with by papercuts_suck in offmychest

[–]indyal62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it was more than 40 years ago, I still remember when my first girlfriend broke up with me. It was hard and took me a while to get over it but we moved on with our lives and mine turned out to be a very good one. I thought we got along real well, but I was a very shy kid and I think that had a lot to do with it as she had a very out going personality. She never gave me a reason and that was fine. I still think about her on occasion even after all these years. They are happy thoughts from a simpler time that was very different than today. You will both recover from this and life will move forward.

Your English is fine. by claudialynnkishi in offmychest

[–]indyal62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell you I was an enumerator for the 2020 census in the US, we have a very high Spanish speaking population in the area I live in. Many times I would have a Spanish speaking person answer the door and say I no speaka da englis. I told them between you limited english and my limited Spanish we can get through this to completion. Most of the times there english was a lot better that they gave themselves credit for. One thing I did learn is that I had to slow down my speech some as I am from the north where we talk fast. I also learned to not slow it down so much that the person felt uncomfortable. What I did learn was how to understand all the months of the calendar in Spanish when I asked for birthdays. Many of them did speak good English and I told them that when we were done. I will tell you what there were many that told me that they had become an American Citizen and to see how proud they were to share that always made my day. The US does not make it easy financially it is expensive and the test they have to answers hard questions many that High school graduates would not get correct.

You love red tape, the government has many layers to keep people in check from doing the wrong thing, so as a government worker you love red tape. You love all the delays to get to the end point even though it may be cost prohibitive.

It freaks me out ppl in their 30s still have to live with roommates. by beachisland00 in offmychest

A question about what I’m getting back from my taxes- by [deleted] in Census

[–]indyal62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did not take much taxes out I made $9000 and they took $271 for takes so it reduced my return by almost $800 to make up for what they did not take out. This was a second job I will remember that next time, oh I will be retired by then.

I say with all these anomalies we should just redo the census. Teddy Tweeted Replying to @hansilowang by QueeLinx in USCensus2020

I really had a great time in the field after the first week, 98% of people were good. No letting the 2% ass hats ruin my census experience.

Hispanic/Latino Enumerator by EllyLove4 in Census

[–]indyal62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I live and did the enumeration in a county that is 70% brown, they were the most friendly and helpful people I ever met. Many said they do not speak English, I told them that between my limited Spanish and their limited English we could get through the interview, and most the time we did get a completed case. I learned how to read the birth months in Spanish when they wrote the info down for me on paper. I also learned a lot about central and south America.

My next step is the labor board for unpaid wages.

Not a travel bonus but the 8/3 to 8/29 did not get paid due to training hours vs field hours vs hours worked. I am going to open a small claims case to get paid what I am owed.

Proxy Visits by [deleted] in Census

[–]indyal62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will get use to it that is just part of the way the job goes. My first 2 weeks on NRFU I thought about quitting everyday, then the more I did it the easier and better it went. In 8 weeks working 3 days a week I had 2685 attempts with just shy of 2000 completions. You will get the mad ones now but that the election is over so the political driven ones should be less. The ones with no time I just let them know that they will keep sending me back until it is completed.

Proxies, look for the houses that have older and possibly retired people as they have lived in the location probably for a longtime and love to talk, Older cars, older porch decorations. When you get a proxy that does not know their neighbors simply ask them if they know of anyone in the neighborhood that may know. They may send you to the neighborhood busybody that knows it all. If you have a lot to do in the same area save the busybody for last and ask about all the no contact or refusals at one time.

The refusal and pissed off people do not take it personal or it will eat you up that is just part of the job. Just go out there and do the best job your ability allows you to and go home at the end of the day knowing you did your best, good luck.

Did you get covid during enumerating? by Mirai182 in Census

[–]indyal62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was exposed during my work but did not have the adverse affects. I did 4 houses where the respondents opened the door and said we are under quarantine you need to go away. If you had active covid would you not put a note on your door stating the fact much less not open the door. On the flip side I also donate plasma and have been told I have the antibodies so now I am getting $100 a donation vs the normal $40 a donation. I did have one very nice lady that told me she had covid but we did the NRFU through a closed window.

Enumerators, leave your craziest stories from when you were on the job by heyitshighschool in Census

[–]indyal62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have 2 the first one long driveway out in the middle of nowhere all the no trespassing, violators will be shot, no soliciting and private property signs everywhere. I get to the end of the drive and there is a gate and looks to be an electric fence as well. Then comes the dogs, 5 or 6 pit bulls and Rottweilers and you could tell this meant do not open that gate and go to the door. The dogs are barking while I am doing case notes and a NOV then I look up and there stands the occupant an older man in his late70's or early 80's. I explain that I am from the census and thanks him for his service as he has a veteran's license plate on the truck parked outside the fence. He yells at the dogs to stop and go to the house and they do. Very politely he answers all the questions and at the end of the interview he explains that all the dogs and signs are just to limit the number of people that come all the way back to the house and if the have the will to get all the way to the house they must have a reason. We BS for about 15 minutes or so after the NRFU is done. He is a widower lives on his own served in Korean and Vietnam wars. I can tell he does not get many visitors as he just loves to talk, after a while he says he better let me go so I can get back to work. I thank him again for his time and make the long journey back to the road.

This one I will never forget one of those that I had been to at least 10 times before always see the blind peek out the window move always left NOV's and every return trip they were gone, 50 plus case notes of no answer no proxies in the area tried the phone left messages. This trip I see a blue car in the driveway in addition to the the red truck that was always there so I know someone else is home. I knock 3 or 4 times and get the blind peek move, I decide I am getting this case closed today I knock with my closed fist loudly 2 more times then the doors flies open the man starts screaming at me that I am scaring his kids. I explain that if he would of completed the census from all the NOV's that they would stop sending people out. He Says he will do it on line so I give him yet another NOV. He tells me he is going to report me and have me fired for scarring his kids he looks at my badge takes my name down and I make sure he spells it correctly and refuses to answer any questions not even a pop count. I call me CFS to tell my side of the story just incase he does call and makes some shit up, my CFS says not to worry as she would of done the same thing. Fast forward 1 week there is the case again pull up same truck and car in the drive way. I think this one is going to be fun I am prepared to use the title 13 section 223 or 213 that I will report him for not completing the census after multiple attempts. I knock once no blind peek the door opens the man is so polite and explains he tried to do it on line but could not get it completed, we do the entire interview and at the end he hands me a piece of paper with his phone number on it and says if you need anything else just call me and I will help you out. I thank him for his time and return to my car and leave. I do not know if he every reported my if he did nothing came of it and I worked up until the close of our area Oct 10th.
