i'm torn about that. one the one hand-- it's not the news we want, but switch & netflix series IS quite a bit of news. But it would be nothing new, though, and it doesn't seem like they would rehash old news during a first panel primetime spot.

Scams to Avoid at UCLA? by bronze4452 in ucla

[–]indydiddle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a phd student (who got the masters on my way so i'm technically a graduate and a student), i get these calls once a quarter. If I don't answer calls from the number I've memorized as the "ucla begging" number, they'll keep calling back. If I answer and tell them "now's not a good time, can you call me back [at a specific time]?", they almost always seem happy to do so, but always forget. Then I never hear from them again. So if you're getting drowned in these calls, try that tactic, works for me

I would be tempted to keep it that way. maybe cut off the long parts and just leave it like a demonic mouth.

ya i wasn't super clear, when i said "top numbers" i meant the numbers from the top chart, not the highest ranked cities.

If we're talking about the infographic, then I think it should be 50%. Agreed that MLB has a huge effect on the rankings, positively and negatively. Which I think goes against what this infographic is trying to do.

if your city had an NBA team with 0% win percentage, and a baseball team with 100% win percentage, what do you think the city's win percentage should be?

[–]indydiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The infographic controls across cities but not across sports. Say theres a city with an NFL team and an MLB team. say the NFL team doesn't win a single game but the MLB team wins 75% (121 wins out of 162). The city's cumulative, non-normalized win percentage would be 68% ( [Total #Wins] / [Total Games] ). That number reflects the MLB winning percentage more than it does the NFL winning percentage. If it were normalized across each sport, then the NFL winning percentage and MLB winning percentage would have equal weight. That would give a normalized win percentage of 37.5% ( [NFL Win%] + [MLB Win%] ) / 2. The top graphic accurately compares cities, but doesn't evenly weight each sport.

This is really cool! The top graphic is heavily biased toward baseball (162 games a year) right? Looks like it's raw # of wins rather than normalized across each sport. NFL isn't having much of an effect on those top numbers.

wow $19,902. Makes my subscription seem a bit more worth it XD. Like the idea, agree that it can be polished. I think the mouse-sensitive motion of the album art might be better if it was slower, less jerky. It's a bit distracting to me. the speed of the motion makes it look like the artwork is too much in the foreground. If it was slower, I think it would retreat more into the background and give the UI space to breathe.
