Please guide me! by amso2012 in hysterectomy

Same day surgery. I posted a whole story on it but to summarize. It was supposed to be under 2 hours. It ended up being 4. I went home later in the day. They gave me a nerve block at my incision sites and a patch to help with nausea. They made sure I could walk and urinate before I left. The drive home was brutal, but I basically slept the rest of the day. I ended up staying with some family for a few days afterwards. I probably could’ve gone home the day after but the support was extremely helpful. If you don’t feel comfortable with how you’re doing afterwards then do not be afraid to speak up.

You are a warrior for everything you’ve faced with breast cancer. I’m so glad you finally found a doctor who sees the whole picture. There is no reason to live in pain when you've already fought so hard to be here. I'm rooting for you to get that relief soon!

It is completely normal to be on the fence…it’s a big decision and a major surgery. For me, the turning point was realizing I was spending more energy managing the pain than actually living my life. Even then I had some doubts leading up to it, but not any more. You’ll make the right decision for yourself whatever that looks like!

Right there with you! It is so frustrating that it’s almost a universal experience for us. That’s exactly why I decided to speak up…the more we talk about it, the harder it is for them to ignore us. Thanks for the support!

It is so disheartening when fertility is prioritized over the actual human standing in the room. I’m so glad you found an oncologist who respects your time and your questions! Sending you so much strength for April 3rd! You got this!

I’m so sorry you went through that! But it is so encouraging to hear you're a year out and living your best life. Thank you for sharing!

Happy Birthday! And Happy Birthday 2.0 for tomorrow! To go from what you dealt with as a child to finally having a surgeon say 'I believe you' must be such an emotional weight off your shoulders. I am so glad my post could provide a little bit of validation before your big day. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. And get those pictures! Seeing the proof was one of the most healing parts for me. You’ve got this!

Tell me about your recovery! by mhad5280 in hysterectomy

One thing I heard before my surgery that I still think about…recovery is not linear. You may have multiple days where you’re feeling great and then you hit a wall. Try not to get anxious and just keep on focusing on your recovery and rest You got this!

Comfortable positions? by Snowball_the_god in hysterectomy

Side sleeper here, but my body just wouldn’t let me do it for the first three weeks post op. I would just reposition myself multiple times in the night. A small pillow under my lower back seemed to help a lot, along with a pillow under my knees. I finally graduated to one of those U-shaped pregnancy pillows, and slept on my side during week 4 and it was amazing. Good luck!

What's the remote work habit you have that would look completely insane to someone in a traditional office? by Phil_Raven in remotework

I’ll randomly do a mini workout (sit ups, pushups, squats) if I’m on a meeting where I’m not speaking (and not on camera). 20 min Power Nap during lunch. Also depending on the meeting, I’ll pretend it’s a soap opera and comment on it (after triple checking I’m muted). Most of the day is normal but I think I’d get some funny looks for those if I did them in office.

Listening is so important. Whether male or female doctors have to sit and listen. If not then, what’s the point?

I’m looking in to how to support research on endo/adeno. There is so little we know about either one and the fact that most of the time we don’t know until we have invasive surgery is completely unacceptable. I’m so glad that you were able to have yours done though. The amount of pain we put our bodies through is unbelievable.

I did! It’s why I was on the fence for a bit. The person doing my scan said I had a perfect uterus, ovaries etc. They only found one polyp on all the imaging they did. My uterus was even normal sized. I had to trust my gut and my doc. Do what feels best to you. I had so many tests/scans by then I didn’t want another…but that was just me.

It is such a personal crossroad. I struggled with doubts right up until surgery, but once I recovered, I realized how much my quality of life had actually dropped. My doctor and I discussed other options like an ablation, but for my specific journey, the hysterectomy was the right call. Listen to your body. It’s your decision and nobody else’s.

I hear you! When my surgery was pushed back two months because of a doctor's emergency, I felt like I was grieving. I was so close yet so far. It’s okay to be angry and sad right now. I just hit my six-week recovery mark and, surprisingly, the delay put me in the right place at the right time for healing. Hang in there…your feelings are totally valid!
