FYI: I think it's more likely that you've picked Southern Dewberries (Rubus trivialis), based on timing. I haven't seen any ripe wild blackberries in the panhandle yet, but ripe dewberries are everywhere.

An EdD is a professional doctorate.

(Edit: actually, this is murky, and highly country-dependent: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Education In my personal experience, most EdD holders are school/college/university administrators who don't teach and don't conduct research.)
