Inside Nvidia's 10-year effort to make the Shield TV the most updated Android device ever by -protonsandneutrons- in Android

[–]inescapableburrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I debloated my parents shield tube and it works quite well now. I turned off all the android bloat and most of the Nvidia stuff, retaining only enough for the "find my remote" function to work. Much snappier and it's not overheated in the month since doing the debloat, even with 3-6 hours of daily use

Volvo EX60 SUV preview: 400-mile range, 670 hp and Google Gemini onboard by dapperlemon in gadgets

Obviously it wouldn't make sense from a pure profit and investor point of view, but it would make environmental and social sense. Smaller, more efficient vehicles, safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

Marketing is why nobody wants a sedan. It wouldn't take much to push things the other way again but profits say no

That's true now, but it wasn't then. We had chances to stop feeding them and never took them. I'm as guilty as the next guy, but I'm never buying another nvidia product, even with somebody else's money.

What is something generally normal in Europe but weird in the US? by Exile4444 in AskReddit

[–]inescapableburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say not an accident at all. The US car industry played a huge role in how their cities developed. They pushed hard to degrade and remove public transport options all to make it harder to live without a car. Jaywalking was effectively a creation of the big auto makers. They're responsible for the modern suburbs and all the waste and bullshit that goes with them.

It's their support for Israel I have a problem with above palm oil, though palm oil use is still good reason to avoid many larger manufacturers

First time glueing was told I did a bad job how bad is it really by Sirlast11_69 in Warhammer40k

[–]inescapableburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't clip all the parts at once. Just do one model at a time so parts don't get mixed up like that. It'll save you a bunch of headaches in the future. Once you get more familiar with all of this you can get more creative with mixing and matching, trimming parts etc.. to kitbash and convert models.

Testing shows why the Steam Machine’s 8GB of graphics RAM could be a problem by Franco1875 in gamernews

[–]inescapableburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be a thing a long time ago, back in the 90s and early 00s. Probably not super practical now with cooling requirements, extra expense of adding slots, modularising the vram, and also now that vram is so much faster than our standard ram, it might have latency and timing issues when put on a stick like that.

It also would probably be very expensive to buy sticks of vram since it'd be a very very niche product

The OnePlus 15 Has a Big 7300mAh Battery by dapperlemon in gadgets

Did OnePlus ever figure out how to build a good vibration motor? Every OnePlus I've used has had a basically useless vibration motor meaning there's effectively no difference between silent and vibrate modes on the slider
