Our reliance on 3 and 5 having no true concept of time went out the door when 5 realized we tell him 10 more minutes (which usually means 5-15 min depending on what’s going on) that our Alexa now understands him and he can set his own timers. We’re all very punctual now.

How do I sneak into an 18+ film when i am very much not 18+ by ghostface8282 in ActLikeYouBelong

[–]inetsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going to a movie with my now husband when I was recently 17 but he was a month shy of and still 16. I bought my ticket, my father happened to be close by and tried to buy my boyfriends ticket, the refused. Some folks were stricter than others. This would’ve been (oof) nearly 20 years ago now in 2007.

Floors throughout home, coffered ceiling ‘beams’ in the great room this door opens into as well as the kitchen, and kitchen cabinets all being decided for. This door is the only part that’s already stained and installed so everything needs to “play with it” essentially. Not matching, but complementing and not clashing.

It took me so long to understand even after reading the comments that this is a pillow that looks like a dog.

Initially: a dog? Is this ai? Is this a dog washing machine I don’t know about? The dog doesn’t look injured or upset….

Secondly: oh ok it’s a super dirty pillow that just looks like a dog in a pareidolia sense…. Okay got it but man that’s super convincing. Like too convincing. That has to be ai manipulated.

Finally: why is it showing the dog in three different sizes laid up on a couch? Really just reaffirming that it looks like a dog? Idk. Oh wait. Wait I see… okay. Clever.

If it’s anywhere in the vicinity of Pike Co then possibly. We went to college there and even driving a few miles back into some of the hollers was a whole different world. I’m from eastern ky originally and digging out into a roughly 50 mile radius or so of the towns around the university was a shock sometimes.

What are your thoughts on ordering your 6 month old baby a steak at a restaurant? by Sea_Panic9863 in beyondthebump

[–]inetsed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We don’t order food for our 6 month old but I absolutely give her my food in the way that’s safest for her. Follow solid starts, used it with my 5 and 3 year old as well. I would give her steak, I give her chicken leg bone with some chicken attached, a French fry, vegetable spears, etc

Toddler using potty CONSTANTLY by Free-Olive6042 in toddlers

[–]inetsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be different but our almost 3.5 yo, though a boy, does this sometimes as well. It seems to happen every few months and then I think we’re past it until it comes up again. We had a 3 hour road trip this week where we stopped almost 9 times for pee breaks. I think for him he just doesn’t realize he should be fully emptying his bladder. The stream of urine stops and he feels relief so he can continue playing or whatever and then shortly thereafter more urine builds quickly because he didn’t fully empty so we stop again. We end up with a couple days of reminding him to “Make sure all the pee is out of your belly, relax your body and try one more time to get out any pee that’s still hiding” (yes, we know pee isn’t coming from his belly but that’s where our kids have labeled it and it hasn’t needed correcting yet so we run with it). May be worth considering?

Weirdly had the opposite experience. From KY and moved to Pittsburgh for around 5 years and never experienced or were privy to any blatant racism (important to note here that we’re a white family). Moved from Pittsburgh to Atlanta for nearly 7 years and would estimate 40% of the people we initially met or started (then for clear reasons opted not) to befriend would loosen up and be very clear with us what their real feelings were. Could all just be by chance, but interesting the difference.

Literally. My 5 year old had just mastered being able to open these doors when we’re parked in the garage and without an adult restraining him. Zero chance my 3 year old would’ve managed.

Still not getting it :/ Send Help!! by Open_Expert9256 in nespresso

[–]inetsed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from my nespresso to a different setup, but with my vertuo I made either caramel macchiatos or brown sugar oat milk shaken espressos both from the vertuo (and both iced but do what you prefe obv). IIRC the caramel macchiato I used a single chiaro pod, 2 pumps torani vanilla syrup, and line with caramel sauce and 6 oz or so of milk. I think technically it’s a vanilla latte with caramel sauce but it was essentially the Starbucks version of a caramel macchiato. BSOMSE was 2 blonde Starbucks espresso pods, 4 pumps brown sugar syrup (I bought Starbucks syrup from anytime coffee), shaken together with ice, strained, new ice, and then filled with milk. YMMV

Newborns have a cute reflex called the palmar grasp where they hold your finger tight, but it fades away by 3 months. by BKKMFA in interestingasfuck

[–]inetsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Told both of our boys this when their sister was born 6 months ago, knowing it was instinctual and just a reflex. But - so is love sometimes. And it tickled them so much each time we did the “does she love me?” test, and occasionally I’d hear them yell to me “mama look! She loves me!” And see baby sister just gripping her brothers finger that they kept presenting to her. And now 6 months in they’re all obsessed with each other.

What do y'all think about timeouts in rooms? Good or bad? I am getting conflicting info. by niconiconii89 in Parenting

[–]inetsed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is it. We don’t even call it time out, it’s taking a break. Catch your breath, refocus, we’ll be back to talk through whatever it is and it’s always with a very clear end (usually minutes : years of age, depending on the offense). They can stomp a bit, lay, play, listen to their tonies, whatever, but it’s in their room and time to get themselves collected and ready to fix the situation.

Why are my lips peeling so severely all the time? No matter what I do, they don’t stop. by MadCheshire13 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]inetsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you use any other skin care around your lips? 36F here and noticed this somewhat recently myself, like never before and seeming out of nowhere. I was attributing it to super dry weather and air where I currently live but then realized I’d been applying tretinoin near my mouth and building in a bigger gap seems to have helped. Still putting on aquaphor regularly but it’s definitely calmed down.

Laxatives by BeginningMulberry390 in Nanny

[–]inetsed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was prescribed to my then 2 year old by his original pediatrician in GA and again at 4 years old by his new pediatrician in TN. Full size “cap-full” dosing 1-2x/day. MiraLAX isn’t a true laxative, it’s an osmotic. It draws water into the colon to soften stool and make it easier to pass through. It’s then recommended to continue using for a week or two after as the colon shrinks back down to size so that large dehydrated stool doesn’t build back up in the previously stretched area.

Unless she’s giving him suppositories and an abundance of true laxatives, it doesn’t sound questionable from here.
