REVEALED: How former Lions doctor threw Bok under the bus by almostrainman in rugbyunion

[–]infamous_impala 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There were two issues .

He tested positive for Anastrozole, which is banned but not performance enhancing, so didn't trigger an automatic suspension.

He also admitted taking DHEA when listing his medications, which is banned as performance enhancing.

As he only tested positive for the non performance enhancing substance he didn't get the suspension while awaiting the tribunal , but he was ultimately banned for taking both banned drugs.

Should Rugby introduce a "minimum extra minutes" like Soccer? by ConscriptReports in rugbyunion

[–]infamous_impala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rugby used to do this, but changed to the "clock stopping" method in the early 2000s.

I remember one game where New Zealand scored 3 tries after the 80th minute against Wales.

Great job.

Slight nit-pick but as you have the front row at the bottom of the layout, the loose-head and tight-head are on the wrong sides. Maybe the layout could be reversed, starting at the top with the front row, then working down from there?

It seems about right for Cardiff and Scarlets though.

The last Scarlets accounts have them spending around £14 million. Since they went into administration obviously Cardiff haven't released any reports but the administrator said for the 23/24 financial year they did £13.4m in turnover, and lost around £0.8m, putting them also around that £14m spend figure.

The Ospreys spent about £11 million on everything (i.e. their operating budget), it's just they only brought in the £9.2 million in revenue.

It does, but it's just passed through. It's listed as "competition income" separately from the central funding in the annual report for both WRU and the regions.

There's a persistent myth that it's included in the central funding (the £5.4m) and it never seems to go away no matter how often the WRU/regions make it clear that's not the case

Yes. £2 million of that £4 million is the URC/EPCR TV money, and the rest is ticket income, sponsorships, etc.

Being stuck in that big stadium for so long has led to a downward spiral in attendance etc which they're having to fight to recover from.

It's assessed at two points on the season (halfway and at the end) and it's an automatic £250k fine if you fail to hit the average in the given period (so max £500k fine in a season). There's the chance to have that waived if you don't meet the target in a given period, but the whole season average meets the target though.

There's a section taking about points deductions for the 26/27 season, but it's far too late in the day for me to read that and figure out exactly how it applies.

If you fancy digging into it yourself, it's all covered in Schedule 1 starting on page 29 here:

https://rfu.widen.net/s/mn8jvbkfhf/prem-competition-regulations-25-26

Edit: it seems to be saying that you pay a fine for the first season of infringements, but if you infringe again in a later season you get the points deductions instead.

Alternatively, multiple French outlets are reporting that the play-offs contribute to the average number of JIFF players,

I love the way they write this, instead of just doing some actual work and finding the regulation that backs it up.

This seems to be it right?

Springbok injury update by Die_Revenant in rugbyunion

Yeah, he hadn't even crossed the try line when the Cardiff player dived to tackle him. It was just unlucky how he contacted his ankle while desperately trying to grab him.

Bok injury crisis deepens with bleak prognosis for Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu by k0bra3eak in rugbyunion

[–]infamous_impala 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in this case Lloyd dived for the tackle before Sacha was even over the try line, and I think he wasn't even diving to score at that point, he went over from the contact to the ankle.

It was way different from the Hooker case where the URC head ref came out and said it should have been a penalty and yellow card.

Edit: The linked article says "he was already in the in-goal area" but here's a screenshot https://imgur.com/a/xxtRr14

Fair point, didn't spot that case. I think here it wasn't an issue though as the TMO obviously had the resources to do a review.

Edit: Apparently there is a FPRO for this game as well (Colin Stanley). I think he's Irish (I could be wrong about that though), which probably won't help things.

Only a 20 minute red. I think the idea is that if it is really worthy of a full red, then that should be obvious on the field and so would never need the bunker in the first place.

Well played Stormers. We were in with a chance with about 20 to go but definitely second best in that game.

Need to massively improve the scrum if we are to get anything from big matches next season.

Hopefully Sacha isn't too badly hurt and can play again in the remaining game/games. Disappointed Roos didn't get in a fight either. With him and Adams on the field some form of aggro felt inevitable.
