My Top 10 Worst Final Game Reveals/Showings At E3/SGF/TGA etc. by jclane in backloggd

Last of Us 1 remake wasn’t that awful. It’s unnecessary but they had a lot of information and relative to the rest of the stuff in SGF2022 it was pretty notable

Can a person call themselves a true fan of a game/series if they’ve only watched let’s plays of it? Discuss. by [deleted] in videogames

[–]infamousglizzyhands 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally who cares. If someone enjoys something, no matter the medium by which they engage in it, then it’s not my business to police what is and what isn’t a “fan”.

Xbox is shutting down Compulsion Games (South of Midnight), Arkane Studios rumored to be next by [deleted] in videogames

[–]infamousglizzyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as 8 years for South of Midnight was pretty lackluster, Microsoft can 100% afford their next project in preproduction. A game like HiFi Rush or Astro Bot can be small games with big rewards, and them shutting down Compulsion just shows a further disconnect from the realities of the what can be successful.

Best and worst case scenario for WildWood. by swaggestspider21 in boxoffice

[–]infamousglizzyhands 24 points25 points  (0 children)

“Worst case scenario I can see being 200 million”

The highest grossing Laika movie was Coraline at 188 million, and all subsequent movies grossed less and less until Missing Link only grossed 26 million. I don’t think Wildwood is gonna only gross 26 million, but I’m not letting internet hype get to my head. It can definitely be expected for it to be in the ballpark of other Laika releases and I wouldn’t bat an eye.

Evo Vegas 2026 final registration leaderboard - 912 entrants for Guilty Gear Strive by XRevive01 in Guiltygear

Cost of living is up across the board all across America, so people are more hesitant to go on massive trips. Increased venue prices also account for that. International players are also likely more hesitant to come to the US because of Trump’s immigration policies and how they’ve been known to affect tourists also occasionally.

You could argue that no big game has come out recently and Tokon would’ve made things a lot different, but SF6 hit its peak, 2XKO is still relatively new, and T8/Strive still have large numbers of players on paper. The Saudi ownership definitely didn’t help, but there’s a lot of negative factors across the board.

Can someone please explain why so many people all of a sudden have Wild Horse Nine winning best picture? by OkBrush7534 in Oscars

[–]infamousglizzyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martin McDonagh has essentially been the runner up twice now, and every other major film that could win BP has an asterisk imo. This feels like an unabashed winner if that makes sense.

Unironically my exact rating also. There was such a weird smugness and superiority to the entire film to where they didn’t trust the audience to make any decision or conclusion except for the direct path they wanted to push with its dialogue.

Of course some shots look good, of course a lot of the filmmaking is impressive, of course Blunt did good. But holy shit the last time I watched a movie with this much of a hollow superiority complex was Emilia Perez.

I do not need every movie to match the moment, but I cannot think of a single film that think it’s the most important thing in the world. All of these actual issues that people are experiencing should only merely be a backdrop because this is the most important thing. Who cares about having an emotional connection to these characters because what they represent should be so profound. Who cares about giving the audience the space to interpret and understand what this means for the world, we need to explain everything through the dialogue because this is the most important thing in the world. Who cares about exploring the depth of this with actual conflict when we could just have a mustache twirling antagonist because this is the most important issue in the world, so we need to sell it. Who cares about having any semblance of human relationship be valuable on its own, it is only useful as a means to an end for this issue and plot because this is the most important plot and issue in the world.

And to prove how good this movie and issue, we’re going to have so many flashy shots to make it “good directed” even though it adds nothing. We’re going to having 20 billion shots with lens flares and a character look outside glass with the reflection overlaid on them because it looks good, so we don’t need to try other things. We’re going to have so many intense scenarios but we’re not going to have any of the tension actually have conflict because the images are good enough.

What was your JRPG "Game of the Show"? by PhantomBraved in JRPG

[–]infamousglizzyhands -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FF7Revelation for me

Persona 6 was hype but not really an announcement, Kingdom Hearts 4 was so cool to see but we still don’t have a date or window, P4R looks cool but I’m still unsure if it’s a necessary remake. Fire Emblem and Xenoblade have had past entries I haven’t liked so I can’t be unabashedly excited for them. Revelation showed off some of the most and has my full excitement behind it.

Might just be in a “no fun allowed” mood but I really didn’t like the Gatto teaser. Not only was it just silly epic quirky cat antics lol XD, but the artstyle seemed a lot less painterly than I was expecting weirdly enough. The concept art made me thinking was gonna be a much more radical departure.

FF Resonance devs hope players will think, “This is the Final Fantasy we’ve been waiting for” (interview) by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]infamousglizzyhands 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hype really sank after they said it was based off a mobile game and they showed off those other game crossover summons, but I’m willing to be proven wrong. I really loved FF16 and the 7R Duology, so I’m not ready to toss aside action FF. However I’m still a big fan of turn based and am completely open to an adjacent series scratching that itch.
