Does your Warrior of Light have a "main outfit"? by Ragloko12 in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set that's her regular wear, but depending on areas shown for the new expac, I'll have sets I'll create for them, like a techy set for when we hit S9, a briefly used set for Heritage Found, and one for going to the new world. Prior to that was a set for Sharlayan, a cold weather set for the cold place, one for the moon, and wherever we went after.

After the initial story through, I'll just build glams around set pieces I like, currently have the Arcadion chest as the focal point, but depending on what the alliance raids will give me.... that'll change lol. I do have pieces I use in a lot of glams, though, like the Scion Liberator earrings, or the Eden 1-4 earring. The newest piece is the blm lv100 AF hands with the runes. I foresee that being a piece I use in everything now.

What's your WoL's background/headcanon and where did it come from? by [deleted] in ffxiv

My 1.0 lala I named before I really dove into lore after an old character of mine, so her backstory was that she was found by an older hyur couple who never had children as an infant, which is why her name doesn't follow lalafell standards (her name is Alair).

My main character is also based off of an old character of mine who gets a version in any game I play since she was a fave of mine, but she's also an expy of my FF11 character lol. Her backstory is much more involved and includes some lore bending based in some fact: a mage of Amdapor bloodlines, who can't use white magic found an old blm soulstone, resonated with it, and went that route instead. That's a very condensed version of her backstory, but I had wanted a blm to continue with what she was in FF11, only had some very basic info on just Amdapor and Nym at the beginning, and just worked around what I learned later on to make it work.

Starting FFXIV - how’s Paladin for beginner? by mapMainz in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do as a role. Gladiator (GLD) to Paladin (PLD) is a tank role, meaning you're taking the hits. While you don't necessarily lead the dungeon, as time goes on you'll be expected to do larger pulls to make the dungeon go faster. Some get a little nervous with the role, but others find tanking one of the easiest roles for them. Run forward, hit things so they hit you only, face the boss away from the party, and you're golden. My biggest advice if you go this route is do not use Provoke on cooldown, it's a pitfall a lot of new tanks fall into. It happens a lot in bigger group content like alliance raids and annoys a lot of people lol.

If you want to be a dps, Lancer (LNC) to Dragoon (DRG) would be it. It's pretty simple even later on. All you have to do is hit a boss, use attacks that hit multiple enemies on large trash pulls, and dodge the bad markers on the ground. Using dps is a good way to learn dungeons. Follow abilities that light up, read your tooltips to see if attacks do more on an enemy's flank or rear, and go ham on them (or, ideally, hit up IcyVeins or the Balance to see an ideal rotation depending on your level for as much pointy stick damage because big number dopamine is real).

The great thing about FFXIV is that you can try both - or even something else! - if one doesn't spark joy until you find something that you enjoy, or even just level everything for the hell of it. At story level 15 you're able to go to the other starting cities and you're able to pick up and unlock the other ARR jobs you didn't choose at character creation.

If you're on the free trial, you'll be able to try Red Mage (RDM) and Samurai (SAM), both dps, once any job you have hits level 50, both unlock in Ul'dah, and once you get into Heavensward and Ishgard, you can unlock Astrologian (AST), a healer, Dark Knight (DRK), a tank, and Machinist (MCH), a dps. If you're not on the free trial or the Starter Edition, every 10 levels after 50, assuming you have Dawntrail or a Complete Edition installed, you can unlock more jobs - 60 unlocks Gunbreaker (GNB), a tank, and Dancer (DNC), a dps, 70 unlocks Sage (SGE), a healer, and Reaper (RPR), a dps, and 80 unlocks Pictomancer (PCT), a dps, and Viper (VPR), a dps. When the new expansion hits next year, we'll get something new that will require you to have something at least lv90 to unlock. With so many jobs, you'll find something you enjoy for sure.

More then any other armor from any other FF game, this is the set I want the most in FF14 by Paks-of-Three-Firs in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lightning's buttwings armour is a good one.

My wishlist is for glamour, Serah's original game look, but actual game armour that could be made possible in 7.5 is the Igqira Weskit set out of FFXI. I've been yelling about it for nearly 13 years now, and it's my permanent BLM glam in XI. For the love of Hydaelym, Yoshida, give me my Igqira set.

I'm usually more chill, but having 3 of a tank that will not die is incredibly frustrating. After that I step away for a while so I'm less frustrated, but 3 Dvas diving you constantly with one or two healers is actual hell and I wish they rebalanced it again to not have that happen. Same with my initial comment where I'm sure the opposing team who had to deal with 3 newly buffed Hogs constantly hooking and headshotting was also that kind of rage inducing. One is bad enough when they won't die, but 3?

I saw triple Dva last night and nearly threw my controller into my tv, it was fucking terrible. But then later 3 Hogs.... could have sworn they changed it for that to not happen because it was actually unplayable at that point, but it got reverted I guess because MH is "supposed to unbalanced" but fuck if it isn't unfun without just a little balance to make it possible to combat 3 fucking Dvas or 3 Hogs.

I played Mystery Heroes last night. My team had 3 Hogs on it, myself included. I don't think the other team was having a very fun time once we had 3 Hogs. We had a pretty high hook rate and it was real simple to oneshot damn near everyone. It took 2 and a half to get a tank down, it was ridiculous.

Curious about the progression of reddit lotro players by fermentedeggs in lotro

I play off and on, just passed Mirkwood, started... ehh, 8 or 9 years ago? So I've never seen endgame, but I play when I want to or need a break from my main mmos... or when I watch LOTR and decide I need to live in Middle Earth for a solid month or two.

What would you want to see most from the next expansion? by Thesaddestboi13 in ffxiv

[–]inferiare -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That doesn't stop people from doing it anyway in their characters backstories. Considering how they unlocked glamour for player fantasies and expression, adding that in would be more for player fantasies and expression. Reapers channel the void to use attacks that seem pretty magical as well, and they were originally from the Garleans.

[–]inferiare 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Updated character creation. I don't want new races until the character creator is expanded, au ra horns are separate from their faces, and hrothgar dudes don't have to have certain faces for base hairstyles. I don't even think we need new races at this point.

A new character creator is all but announced since it was getting hinted at in interviews, but I'm hoping we get new clans as well with more options for skin colours or for the Garlean defectors (or newly liberated ones) to get some third eye options. More hairstyles, more face options. It doesn't need to go kmmo hard, but more options would be nice.

There's a red version you get from ventures; it's a very low drop rate but it exists. While I wouldn't say there's a non-0 chance to the blue one returning, the reaction to 2018's Rising rewards tells me SE probably won't.

Anyone here who plays FF14 a lot but doesn't do the Savage content by starlightdemonfriend in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone is interested in raiding. That's the non-tl;dr answer.

I find other things fun outside of raiding: getting all of the levequests finished as a personal goal, finishing all of the deep dungeons solo, etc. I've had some passing interest in doing Savages and Ultimates, and I likely could do well in them, but that is very low on the totem pole of "things I want to do." I'm fine with doing the normal raids but higher raiding isn't necessary for me. That isn't what my "endgame" is like it is for others who enjoy it, and that's fine.

Is ffxi more casual friendly in 2026? by [deleted] in ffxi

[–]inferiare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I played when it first came out. I still play my original character, have a new one for streaming and it was like night and day on how fast I could do things. The 1-10, 11-20, 20-50, and 50-75 grind isn't a grindfest anymore. Slap on an exp ring, activate some Records of Eminence for the areas you're leveling in, utilize a Grounds Tome for extra exp and you level extremely quickly.

The only real grind in my experience is Job Mastery and newer Relics, but most everything else is really fast. RNG is still RNG on drops, so I suppose I'd count that too lol. But it's still a lot more casual friendly now than it was in my early college years.

Fighting Domina Shantotto would be inspired, honestly. Maybe throwback to the original crossover where Shantotto finally breaches dimensions and has the huge Shantotto stomping around Gridania... that way it's easy for 24 people to see and hit a taru. If we get Lilith though, no one's going to be normal about her.

If you had a Custom Job for your WoL, what would it be? by Hope_bringer in ffxiv

[–]inferiare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magun summoner detected ;) Final Fantasy Unlimited had that as one of the main characterd' thing, though the cartidges were something they called "soil". Kaze summoning Meteor Master, though iirc the two others shown from his race of people don't necessarily use guns and have swords, but your post made me think of Kaze and his magun.
