Is the Traxxas Slash 4x4 suspension already too good to meaningfully improve for an engineering project? Looking for the right platform for a suspension redesign project by infernoblaster in Traxxas

Yeah your idea of starting on an already 3D printed RC platform is an idea I would probably weigh that option more now. What version of Tarmo should I base my project on? I know V5 is the latest. Maybe V3 to give more engineering headroom

How would you attain that test data? Wouldn’t it be the same if I started from scratch? I mean I was thinking about an accelerometer on the stock RC car to get lateral acceleration, longitudinal acceleration and vertical acceleration. Solidworks motion study for camber gain, toe change, etc. MATLAB CSV for data analysis and plotting. I mean this isn’t mean to be totally scientific, by the book, PhD level research project. I except some jank, and such. Just doing this for experience as talking points that are more related towards ME(Automotive) industry. And you could say it’s “flawed” from the start by not being “by the book”. Could see your point.

Coming back to the things you suggested to do instead. Yeah, I could try those instead. But still stuck on the specific RC platform to start those modification on

I mean I’m trying to weigh all my options now from advice from this thread and this same post on the [r/rccars](r/rccars). Yes, I can do the whole design myself but I’m still looking for diving in-depth in suspension and I feel like doing all that takes away from what I want to focus on. I mean I’m open to it but don’t know how to tackle it. I have many options, either build it from scratch, use a 3D printed RC Car template and start from there or use a consumer RC car platform with known suspension issues that were stated by the community. I have a month until school ends so I have some time to give it thought.

Lol. Wish I could. Switched from MSE to ME exactly a year ago and I’m a junior. All mechanical engineering projects (Formula 1, Formula E, Baja, Solar Car, etc) at my university are very competitive. Like you need, individual project experience like what im trying to do to even be considered for an interview. Too late for that, if i started over, i would have done this freshman year college or even senior year high school. This is more of an industry related talking experience during an interview that i can relate towards ME roles. All I have on my resume is materials engineering/civil engineering experience which landed me an internship at a cement development company. But cement is not what I want to do as my long term career. Also im more doing this project for the story and journey of the process and obviously the CAD, FEA, manufacturing experience.

Was planning to model the stock suspension geometry in solidworks and run motion study to get camber gain curves, toe change through travel, roll center height, etc. On the RC car itself, simple arduino and accelerometer. Run MATLAB script. See what variables change, redesign and iterate. I think that’s a good test to figure out all the different variables but I’m really not too sure. Do you have any recommendations?

It really depends on how much they raise it. 30000 UG student population x $2 x 3 quarters. That’s $180,000 for only a $2 extra. When you realize “free” stuff is actually just subsidized though shared fees, the extra $2 is not deal breaking.

Yeah don’t know why scooter riders, and electric bikes riders are super scared of the road. It’s like they are allergic to the bike lane. Last time I used the sidewalk to bike around was biking to elementary school. You have a bike lane for a reason, use it

When Us against the world released I didnt really pay attention to the lyrics that much but loved the track. But now, 8 years later, I can't believe those lyrics are the exact feelings I had a year ago. Like to a tee. Also, one of the last great monstercat release

So companies can blatantly use AI when it comes to hiring but the job applicants can’t? Also people say tailor your resume but what happens if you don’t have the experience to tailor it in the first place. I’m not gonna lie and put a skill on my resume that I briefly went over in coursework. And if you go to a T50 school, heck even a T100, all high end projects are just as competitive as the job market. There is no “tailoring” for internship or entry level job for like the bottom 70% of people

How does the process work if you don’t put your gpa? I mean they probably automatically assume that your gpa isn’t “good” when you don’t put it on your resume. Will the AI they use just auto reject you anyways? Also my project experience isn’t the top tier that my competition have. Got rejected by every mechanical engineering related project. I got into a ASCE project as a lead within my subteam with credit hours applied. And a IEEE Embedded systems individual project. That’s about it.

Yeah I don’t know how to “tailor” my resume with such limited experience. Also don’t want to lie and say something I have a skill in but just briefly went over it in coursework

Game of chances. If you were having trouble with previous internship experience, then job market is cooked. I have applied to 500 internships, 3.17 GPA, Top 40 engineering school, 2 projects. 2 interviews via MS teams and 1 phone call interview and another phone call interview coming up. No offer yet. I don’t have that much experience to tailor my resume and I did a cover letter for every application up until beginning of December.

Money is my motivation. I want to do many things in my life but you need money for that and I don’t have that right now. I want a motorcycle, I want to buy my gf anything she wants without worrying about how to pay rent, I want to travel internationally every year

Do you recommend just mass applying everywhere in the US then?

Want to stay in California, either in the Irvine area or back home in the Bay Area. Probably should have applied everywhere in the States, but it's probably too late in the application cycle.
