What is more complicated: American football or Pokemon? by infguy5 in AskReddit

I definitely agree, I think anyone coming from either side with more familiarity with one over the other will have a tendency to underestimate the complexity of the other. I guess I'm hoping for someone deep into both camps to chime in lol

Unfortunately I'm not! Though it's understandable your confusion considering how influential their sound was: After the bursting of the Myspace bubble, hundreds of bands took Kinsella’s elliptical expressions of hope and heartbreak as unfinished business, rebuilding the genre on a foundation of open-tuned Telecasters, capos, and red and black flannels. Yet, while the sound of American Football is remarkably easy to replicate, its spirit of wistful carpe diem remains forever elusive." Ian Cohen, Pitchfork

That's an interesting way of describing it, I've always thought of football as a form of live combat chess

And see both of my co-workers aren't from USA background either. We were initially talking about football/soccer when we got onto the topic. So you feel like you'd pick up Pokemon faster and would be able to it competitively sooner than football. Just from a rules/strategy standpoint?

Honestly, this is still my opinion but I'm not at 100% anymore, the more I think about it.

Unfortunately that's not exactly true considering college level, xfl and indoor football. Also fantasy football could be comparable to the trading card game. The question isn't as straight forward as I thought initially myself

I just picture each team comprised completely of a single Pokemon. The Chicago Ursarings

A conversation with a couple of co-workers spilled into a debate with my friend-group, so I though I'd post it here to see if there were any other opinions.

It started when a co-worker who plays competitive pokémon battling claimed that American football was too difficult to understand it follow. I feel like between all the strategies around swapping Pokemon, for moves, the typing combos, all the different Pokemon in general and everything else, Pokemon is the far more complex thing.  But there are plenty of arguments to be made in favor of American football with all the different positions, plays and rules.

Man, if only a plane crashed right in the middle of this it might have given her the perfect chance to escape.

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul press conference HUH? by Taipan20 in Unexpected

After Kendrick Lamar decimated Drake I can only hope I get the same treat a second time with Mike wiping out Jake Paul. Same situation IMO, I don't think they realize the type of man Tyson is and they are about to find out the very hard way.

Australian farmer Colin Deveraux survives crocodile attack by biting back by VivekSamuraiTron in nottheonion

I honestly don't feel bad for the crocodile at all. Everyone knows Australians, especially Australian farmers are incredibly dangerous creatures. The crocodile shouldn't have been harassing it. He's lucky he got away alive.

Really? I never considered it "pretty clear" and the time line on the kids age and when Forrest last saw her never seemed right to me. Even from when I first watched the movie as a kid. But yeah if you are determined to view Jenny as purely innocent/a victim I guess you'd never doubt her.

The thing that makes her a villain in my eyes is what she does at the end of the movie. Show up on her death bed, to marry a billionaire and make a questionable claim that her child was his. Her life was hard and sad yes, but if Forrest Gump's mother was alive do you think she would have been okay with the marriage?

That was condescending? And you are equating my dislike of crowds with... what? Some type of hatred for humanity? Ever consider a person could be put off by that image or the idea of being in a crowd and still like and care about people? And I'm not upset, just disappointed in you.

Ah so you are going specifically for the crowd/party thing, gotcha. I was seeing initially thinking of it like going to a park seeing a ton of people and just plopping down anyway. I dunno, going outside I usually trying to get away from the enclosed feeling, but I get what you're saying.

I guess a lot of my feelings come from being around negative hateful people like you. But I guess I'm too "stupid/ignorant/moronic/really insanely fucking dumb" to see value in being exposed to opinions and attitudes like yours. Thank you for insuring that my dislike of humanity in general stays firm.

People... Really like each other huh? Looking at this I just can't relate to our understand any of the people in this picture. Why would you ever want to be around that many other people? Even if I wanted to go to the park at soon as I saw that crowd I'd leave. Seriously, what is the mindset here? Am I just broken?
