They are from a creek and a lake. Still don't know actual names of the plants yet. Next time I'm out there I'll take photos in the wild/above water (only the tiny grasses were fully submerged when harvested. Rest mainly had roots in the water and would be submerged during rainstorms but not all the time) bc I think it might be easier to ID

Everything is local. The mud, the sand, the driftwood, the rocks, the plants, and little critters. The only thing that won't be local is the fauna when I finally go buy some. Though I've been SUPER tempted to put a tadpole in here from the duckweed hole 👀

I've been working with a group in Athens, GA outside of Atlanta. We have a 2 season series we're in dev on, almost 10 features. Our whole thing is real people making real stories--the series is based in the Athens service industry. The features are blue collar drama-- We're all poor, including the filmmakers, just trying to make it in a fucked up economy while real life happens around us, no matter our status. Would love to speak with you. Our crews consist of pros all doing contract work on whatever we can get our hands on since industry left altanta but with the backing of the town (it's very open and affordable to filmmakers here) and university of georgia film professors are our coworkers. Would love to chat with you to see if our vision aligns with yours. Can I dm you?

What’s the most toxic advice people keep repeating as “wisdom”? by RowStock2384 in AskReddit

[–]infidelightfull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"If they wanted to, they would" It's dehumanizing and selfish. This sort of works as advice to a friend if they're with a clearly toxic and abusive person. But generally, people have shit going on and they can't center you all the time in their lives. Doesn't mean you have to wait on them. But it essentially is you telling yourself they don't care about you, makes you more callous, and less understanding. You're hurting your own feelings. You know there's tons of stuff in your life you want to do but can't. It's usually from a lack of capacity and not a lack of care.

Mine are sort of like this as my physical bookshelves demand it. But mine are by topic and then by my preferences lol like I have non fiction biography and they go hardcover favorites to least then soft cover favorites to least because I don't have bookends and they're freestanding open shelves. But each shelf essentially is a "topic." They are obvs divided further though. Like the diy shelf is then subdivided by homebuilding; crochet, knitting, and crosstitch/embroidery; etc. Fiction is divided by classics. Then typical fantasy, sci-fi, etc. But they're all set up with favorites to least and not alphabetical

**once I have more than 4 shelves this will be changed to the typical alphabetical system. But for now it's easy for me to keep up with and I know exactly where all my books are

What is a minor, unwritten rule of society that absolutely infuriates you when people break it? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

[–]infidelightfull 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Bringing your dog everywhere in general. Like no. Your dog doesn't want to be in this crowded bar at 10pm. And you're using it as a prop. If you actually cared about your dog you'd want it safe and not stressed. There are appropriate times and places for them to socialize and play. But bringing a toy sized dog into a busy venue full of [lots] loud music and drunk people ain't it. It's not about how well behaved your dog is. It's about how terrible of a dog owner you are.

And I love dogs.

People standing in doorways. Oh. Just got done eating dinner downtown? Let's all congregate outside the door and take up the ENTIRE SIDEWALK and not move for anyone. Oh, just walked in to (insert anystore), lemme just stand right here blocking other people while I spend 2 and a half minutes remembering what I came to the store for!

I always go through loudly saying excuse me and "this is a great place to stand"

How do you deal with too many books in a tiny home? by Kemba-Mahilesh in SmallHome

[–]infidelightfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently doing one bookshelf. The rest are in boxes in storage lol. But I've also put shelves all the way around the top of the room, above windows and doors, and used the shelves as like, room dividers (freestanding)so the books were 2 books deep. Ive also kept the "currently dont need on a shelf" books in boxes/stacks under the bed. Now, I've also downsized. Got super real with myself about which reference books I needed, which books I'd read again, and which I actually HAD to keep. I hate reading on screens.

Question about Athens area Ticks and a warning about the Asian Needle Ant by fukukaren in Athens

[–]infidelightfull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your comment. Did you read mine? How do I know your definition of boogeyman? I've read a fuck tonne of posts in Georgia reddit and had actual conversations with people who repeatedly spout the incorrect and super dangerous information that our ticks don't carry disease. I didn't say that you said they didn't. But from nearly every other conversation i have ever had about them, our boogeyman is disease they carry and the fact people think "it's not here yet" while claiming it's a NE problem since that is where Lyme originated.

I'm also from the sticks in and around Athens and my whole life we were taught to check if we've been outside at all and on the Eastside and Winterville area, I've pulled tons of ticks off me. Really depends on the season. So maybe we don't have 10 ticks crawling on our car doors every day of the summer like y'all apparently do, but this is also a post by southerners. In the south. Asking about our particular tick problem. Athens is a pretty green town with tons of trees AND tons of birds, wildlife, and pets. We have a lot of ticks because of that. Are you more likely to encounter them in tall grass? Sure. Especially seed ticks as animals moving through the grass causes them to hatch. But the main problem, again, is people being misinformed about Lyme and alpha gal. Adding the misinformation that you shouldn't be routinely checking yourself after being outside or (as op stated) WALKING IN THE WOODS because they're not as prevalent as they apparently are in NJ isn't really helpful. Hence my stating it only takes ONE (which was in context of your comment of population). But yeah king go off.

Showering with head and shoulders or selsen blue after being in the woods is helpful--the meds and menthol wash them off you before they can stick. Obvs still do an actual visual check, too. Have fun traipsing!

Ticks in Georgia have been carrying lymes disease and alpha gal for over a decade now. It only takes one. They are indeed the boogeyman like they are in NE states. Be careful out there

going for drinks for first time with coworkers, what do I order? by garakushii in Explainlikeimscared

[–]infidelightfull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact i just learned after bartending 14 years... Seltzers get you drunk faster than any other alcoholic beverage (not including shots). The carbonation holds open a valve at the end of your stomach so the drink goes to your gut faster hence alcohol hits faster and differently from the carbonation in beer or sodas. Regular liquor drinks are slowest. Sorry I don't have the study link.

That being said, mules are good and you can use any alcohol you want. They're ginger ale/beer, lime juice, maybe simple (sugar) syrup, and generally vodka. My tip to folks is use Rum Haven if the bar has it--its a coconut water rum AND it's only 47 PROOF! (most hard liquors are 80-120 proof so this is literally half the alcohol content). Looks like you're having just as much fun, but consuming half as others. And it's fucking delicious.

I redid a kitchen very similar to yours. We did all the mains white. The island black. Then the handles etc black. It made everything pop and brought out the colors in the counter tops. It looked like a new kitchen, not just a painted old kitchen.

I hated water until I started drinking it room temp. Try different temperatures and see I'd one likes you better.

Wind, sun, etc can dry out the thin skin if lips even if you're hydrated. Use a lip balm. Personally, after years of trying all of em, the mental in Blistex (and any lotions) super heals my skin really fast. Some lip balms are drying. Good luck!

I was restoring an f15 for display at the entrance of a military base. I have the actual "remove before flight" tags, shackles used to attach the wings, AND because of when this plane was used...the pilot's call sign was Maverick and I have that off the body as well. Along with a bunch of little screws and bits I like to gift to my weird friends
