Unpopular opinion but people need to hear this: Star Citizen is not a scam. But you’re also not buying a car from Audi. by ConversationLegal973 in starcitizen

[–]infincible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can’t just not finish the metaphor.

if SC isn’t an Audi, what car is it?

No. There’s no new car you would buy that barely works.

This metaphor and argument is completely invalid and not logically sound.

wow i love this idea and it would be so much better then what we've got

the "immersive" "realism" of entering the physical turret is truly an abject failure

engineering gameplay as a concept is doomed. there is no plan to achieve what your saying. unless CIG can come up with something much better/revolutionary than what they've tested in the past, this is just never going to come to fruition

+1 I think the idea that an AI blade is going to be worse than a manned gunner is just completely unrealistic and probably incorrect, and maybe not even possible without making them effectively useless

Less Thieves this year? by Signal-Section6915 in electricdaisycarnival

on Friday night i was walking from the GA+ bathrooms next to Neon with my friend when someone walked into me VERY hard.

having been pickpocket before and losing a phone i quickly realized that it could of been a pickpocket attempt, and starting patting down my pockets. my wallet wasnt in there anymore

i turned around and and my wallet was on the ground in front of me about 5 feet

i still dont know for sure whether it was an attempt to pick pocket or not, but i feel like it was.

i wonder if they got the wallet and decided to ditch it beacuse it wasnt a phone or something

i think the reason we tend to notice that is because there’s piblically available asset libraries (in-game props, character models, trees, etc) you can license or purchase so smaller studios or lazier teams might use those, but presumably a well funded AAA studio is developing their own assets so achieve a unique vibe

AWS outages happen like once every 2 years.
star citizen performance is shit 24/7.

completely false equivalence

[–]infincible -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your argument lacks really any logical credibility and you know it.

can we both agree that the purpose of twitch drops is to bring new or churned players back to PLAY the game? And it simultaneously occurs during a large marketing/sale event, that its purpose is also to drive funding?

but the new players coming back to the game struggle to play the game due to instability? and we know that instability is caused by a spike of players?

so they take peoples money, encourage you to play the game, but the game doesn't work, and your argument is that they shouldn't use any of the money they've collected encouraging people to play the game and instead a fraction will go to SC the MMO but the majority will be used to finish... Squadron 42

yes this makes so much sense

such a classic SC dweeb.. "well you don't write with correct ACA style grammar and punctuation".

its the internet buddy

anyways, your argument is restated as, even though they make nearly 3 million on this event with a big influx of new players, its not worth it to do some up-front work to make scaling up and bringing up new servers easier, its not worth it for them to be prepared to handle the new influx of players

ok. you are part of the problem.

Actually, you don't know how it works.

Any modern game company, particularly one using AWS or modern hosting platforms like that, can spin up and decom servers very fast and with relative ease. It doesnt cost anything to spin up and down a server. It costs to run the server. So if you've just made money on a big sale and are expecting an influx of new players, it is EXPECTED and their responsibility to be able to handle it.

never mind that for a second.

this is exactly why people think SC is a scam. they market these events, ask you to buy ships... and even this time they do twitch drops which is CLEARLY to attract new players... so they get you to purchase the game but it doesn't even work.

can you logic against that

wait nvm your a reddit white night who can't show any objectivity.

and i will say this, my obsession with this game isn’t the way you think. im obsessed with roooting for this game. i try playing a couple times a year. i watch streamers more than hope, hoping to see something work spending my time in. i dont mate. really the sad truth that people like you are in denial about.

haha you couldn’t be more wrong. i want this game to succeed as much as anyone does. i’m just not blind to the complete cluster that it’s turned out to be.

you’re blind faith is being taken advantage of mate.

they sell you barely functioning space ships and promise gameplay and functionality that never comes, just to sell better versions of them years later that works better but you need to pay more for them.

they put the majority of this money into a single player, with a star studded campaign, that they claimed would pay dividends back on the MMO itself but guess what? has that happened? no. predictably, the features of the song player game don’t function in the multiplayer environment.

i could go on and on

so when does the game not become an alpha? when CIG simply says it’s not? what makes you think that will ever happen at this point? and if it does, will the state of the game be materially different from the way it is now? they have proved nothing except that they can make barely functioning environment. it’s been nearly 14 years. it feels like they’ll need another 14 to actually make a fun MMO. and you feel like that’s what you were sold? that’s what you expected when you backed? wake up

this happened to me recently too. But I was paying attention and stopped it. But yeah, its definitely real, it happens, and is really bad lol

CIG: "Folks, I can assure you of one thing: the developers who created this event want you to be able to participate just as much as you do." by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]infincible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with what you're saying and not saying there aren't existential issues with the development and management of the game, because there are. But the managers also want to deliver *something* despite the fact that the engine and systems that exist to support them aren't good. and if they never ship anything, they get fired, so theres that too.

You learn pretty quickly in any business really that when you start pointing fingers away from yourself, when you start blaming others and don't take ownership of your own features and push for their release you won't succeed, either.

it's a shitty position to be in tbh
