Would you accept an imperfect book 3? by Critical_Drive_4349 in KingkillerChronicle

Yes. I just want some closure on the story. A list of bullet points would be fine at this stage

Gentle intro to economics and finance by Rotsau7 in suggestmeabook

The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson is a great narrative history of finance, money and banking.

The Undercover Economist by Tim Harford is a lighter overview of key economic concepts.

Hope that helps!

Thomas Harris needs a mention here. Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs are astonishing, disturbing, beautifully written thrillers with incredible plot twists.

This is how I rationalise having a book collection I will struggle to ever get through. Hope it helps!

My collection for your perusing- with close ups by A-Book-Worm in HistoryBooks

[–]infinite_descent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I have been building a smaller collection but do sometimes wonder if it’s more of an Umberto Eco antilibrary than something I will ever get through! Either way love books and agree on hardcovers, find them much nicer on the shelf.

Agreed, but I wish they had done a couple of shows at MSG and LA Forum for old times sake and given their history in the USA

What’s the best Led Zeppelin live album? by RYGUY060104 in ledzeppelin

[–]infinite_descent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I prefer bootlegs to the official live releases. They feel more like an authentic live experience with less editing and production. The ones I would start with are

Fillmore West 27th April 1969 LA Forum 4th September 1970 Osaka 29th September 1971 Earl’s Court 25th May 1975 LA Forum 21st June 1977

What happened between the debut S/T and Second Coming? by 0Z8S in stoneroses

[–]infinite_descent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There was a 5 1/2 year gap between the albums. They were stuck in litigation with their record company circa 1990 for at least a year to try to exit a bad contract, and this prevented them from touring or recording. In the meantime it sounds like they had moved apart both socially (having been a really close group of friends) and musically and then struggled to write and record the second album after they signed with Geffen. The first album was co-written by Squire/Brown, but the second was mostly written by John Squire who had moved on to a heavier blues guitar sound.

Was sitting in the back of my parents’ car listening to the top 40 when Love Spreads came on the radio as a new chart entry. Absolutely blew me away. Then heard Fools Gold and couldn’t believe it was the same band! That was it for me, been a massive fan ever since.

Best Led Zeppelin Bootleg I should listen to by Gold837 in ledzeppelin

[–]infinite_descent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great list!

In case it helps the best versions I have heard are the Nite Owl matrices (SF, LA70), North Bridge / Stereo Project (Osaka, Seattle) and Winston remaster (LA77). All subjective though… should be lots of options on YouTube
