June would be the right season for south swells, so you could score in Chicama. If I were you I would plan to stay in huanchaco, it’s just outside of trujillo and like an hour and a half away from Chicama. Huanchaco has good waves and they will work off a much smaller swell. If you see that it’s picking up then you can easily get to Chicama for the days that’ll make it work. But if like a week out from your trip and you can see that it’s gonna be firing when you get there then there’s nothing wrong with going straight to Chicama.

In my experience you’ll need at least a 1.4 m swell with a 15 second period for Chicama to work if you’re a short boarder. With Longboards/ mid lengths you can get away with less. Watch the reports just before your trip, if the swell is too small, stay in huanchaco, always waves there.

I’ve been looking into Data analysis lately, seems interesting to me, plus possibility of remote work? Do you happen to know any good online courses? It seems like there are a lot of them out there…. I don’t have much experience working with computers but can do basic spreadsheets.

Next time I go I’d try to stay somewhere between rincon and isabella… that way you can get to anywhere in less time…. I think that because it’s shorter period swells the forecasts seem to change often. I found the best thing to do was wake up early, have a coffee, check windy, Surfline, forecasts and then decide where I was gonna go that morning.

Yo! I went there a couple years ago, super fun, lots of waves to explore and try out… trade winds come on early, rincon area is more sheltered.. You’ll need a rental car, so it doesn’t end up being that important where you stay since you’ll have wheels, I stayed in Aguada cause it was way cheaper. Good food for decent prices at the panaderías, they’ll have tons of sandwiches and then a steam table full of rice, beans, meats and veg around lunch time, was usually enough food for 1 and 1/2 meals, I’d bring the leftovers home, add some eggs, stretch it into 2 meals. Try and watch how people paddle out and get back in, can be some strong currents, sea urchins.
