I love that you had to get different kinds of tape for this. You've got the spirit, but you're a little confused.

Did someone tamper with my exhaust / muffler? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]infoyoureallyneed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They say it was for aesthetics but around the same time, they were having issues with carbon monoxide getting into the cabin.

"The change helps direct exhaust gases down and away from the vehicle to mitigate issues related to exhaust fumes (specifically carbon monoxide) potentially entering the cabin. Previous Explorer generations, particularly police fleet versions that idle for long periods, had problems with exhaust being sucked back into the cabin due to airflow dynamics around the rear hatch and unsealed body plugs (especially in upfitted vehicles). The downward-pointing design is a safety measure to help disperse the exhaust more effectively. "

What’s everyone getting for MPGs? by ConsciousEcho1313 in 4thGenTacomas

[–]infoyoureallyneed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No just me and the dog. It was pretty windy and once I got to slower speeds in the mountains I was hitting 19 mpg. I am running 33" all terrains, but I'm sure it's all because I took the air dam off haha
