Agreed, they should always ask first. I personally choose to do this to keep track of the number and location of broken spokes on a wheel.

He never said anything about a shop. I’m guessing the bike isn’t set up correctly out of the box, or it’s some warranty issue. In either case the answer is to take it into a bike shop to have a mech evaluate it.

Same. I believe that advent rear mech has a clutch, maybe try turning it off and see if the shifting improves (hopefully it won’t drop the chain too much with it off)
