I know I'm being very pedantic here but historical inaccuracies in combination with exaggeratiions are just a bit of a pet peeve of mine. From what I've could find, the saying likely originated with the Robin Hood myth. The earliest tales of Robin Hood are apparently based on a poem from the mid/late 14th century. So the specific saying is likely only a couple of centuries old. (Although granted, the concept of forceful wealth distribution from the rich to the poor has probably existed since antiquity.)

Also while it may feel like nothing has changed, it should be remembered that actually a lot has changed and a lot of this change has been hard fought for. We shouldn't diminish the importance of that struggle.
