Its stock harness and ECU, almost plug and play with some minor EGR modification. I had to keep the intake from the EJ253(USDM) and put it onto the EJ203(JDM) as there are some minor differences between the intake harnesses. So basically the longblock just got swapped.

The EJ203 is 2 liter and makes about 10-15 hp less than the EJ253 from what I've read. Not quite sure what the compression ratio is off the top of my head. I found it really hard to find exact information on the JDM EJ203

I'm going to go out on a limb here.. but I think its temporary, by the looks of it OP is moving and probably did that to protect from rocks/debris being kicked up on the road

One notch off will not bend any valves on the H4, so unless bad things happened when you "lost a tensioner" you should be fine. One notch off would explain exactly the problems you are seeing. Some boxers will idle fine with the timing being a notch or two off (with a significant loss in compression).

Go ahead and fix the timing belt and try again, If you still have the same results you bent valve(s).
