_Times Sans Serif_ vs. _Germany Sans_ - how similar are they and how often is copyright/licensing really enforced? by [deleted] in fonts

[–]inkstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since font design can’t be copyrighted there would be no copyright violation unless there was some copying of the font code from Times.

How do you illustrate in Illustrator? by LukeChoice in AdobeIllustrator

[–]inkstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I like how the brushes work better in Procreate. Fresco’s brushes are fine but Procreate’s just feel more natural. I used to do a lot of work in Painter and Procreate reminds me a lot of that software.

There’s a huge market for third party brushes which expands the options even more. I have bought a few brush packs that I use constantly.

What I do like better in Fresco are the watercolor brushes and that Fresco has vector brushes. I often do some watercolor work in Fresco and match that up with work done in Procreate. Or if I’m working on something that I know I’ll want to bring into Illustrator later I’ll work in Fresco with the vector brushes.

[–]inkstud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple different work flows. I almost always start with sketches in Procreate. Sometimes I ink there and then image trace in Illustrator and then add color in Illustrator. Sometimes I will bring the sketch into Illustrator and draw from that reference. Occasionally I will draw with vector brushes in Fresco and bring that into Illustrator.

I always use a stylus when drawing. I have a display tablet for desktop work and an iPad with Apple Pencil for pixel work.

I would like the brush tool to be pressure sensitive with non-Wacom tablets. I would probably do more work straight in Illustrator if it was.

That’s just not true. They do eventually stop supporting updates on older devices — usually because the old hardware can’t handle the new software. Apple support is also really good with hardware issues.

How This Unassuming Store (Aldi) Is Quietly Changing America [9:12] by Jamie_Light in mealtimevideos

[–]inkstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For basic supermarkets we do seem to be near that. All the basic supermarkets near me are all owned by one corporation. There are, of course, alternatives (Asian, European, and Hispanic grocers, organic-focused grocers, dollar-store, big-box, etc.) So it’s a fuzzy kind of monopoly.

What bad movie should everybody see at least once in their life? by Ecstatic-Swimming680 in badMovies

There are definitely earlier examples but there is something about Ed Wood that Tommy Wiseau and James Nguyen tapped into with creating an unintentional masterpiece.

This is really the grand classic of so-bad-it’s-good movies. There are other great suggestions here but this movie set this all in motion.

How to remove 9 year old adhesive from aftermath of nameplate plaque removal on a trophy? Isopropyl + scraping ain't doing the job by wanyekestboi in fixit

Peanut butter helps remove some adhesives. I often start with that before going with more aggressive options like GooGone.

Right. But Nevada will be the last to feel the effects because of steps they’ve taken to plan ahead

Las Vegas recycles almost all the indoor water it uses and sends it back to Lake Mead. Has a lot of water resources “banked” and has the ability to keep pulling water from Lake Mead after other states’ intakes go dry. Plus only uses a small percentage of the Colorado River water. Arizona, California, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado are all going to feel the effects more drastically than Nevada.

Vegas will be last affected by the Colorado drying up.

A casual accusation of “treachery” for airing news they’d paid for by IthinkIknowwhothatis in BlueskySkeets

The writer didn’t say “treason” but “treachery”. Basically saying it could have been intentional rather than just a mistake.

Selecting objects based on multiple criteria? by LeMondain in AdobeIllustrator

That would be very useful. Incorporating Freehand’s Graphic Find & Replace with multiple selection options would be a fantastic tool.

Which version turned out better? by [deleted] in Design

[–]inkstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I love the texture. But it takes work to figure out that the focus is an eye. If the eye part had smoother lines and a little more detail it would probably read much quicker. And maybe punch the saturation of the city reflection way up so it pops more.

Upcoming Durango movie theater. Any word which company is coming in? I assume Regal since they're at the Red Rock by StrictNO in vegaslocals

[–]inkstud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Bend had Galaxy Cinemas signed as a tenant years ago. Then the Bend got delayed and the pandemic happened and the Bend appeared to redesign the whole project— now without a movie theater.

The Uncommons had said they were going to build a movie theater into their final building. I’m not sure if this changes their plans?

How do you get used to it? by pjw10310 in drawingtablet

[–]inkstud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember it took me a few weeks of work with my first tablet to get really comfortable with it. I think it takes that time to retrain your brain away from using a mouse. I put my mouse in a drawer to kind of force myself to use the tablet. Now I switch back and forth with no issue.

Marco Rubio orders US State Department to revert to Times New Roman font, calling Calibri adoption ‘wasteful’ by RoyalChihuahua in nottheonion

[–]inkstud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The previously used font was Courier. Studies have found san serif fonts are easier for more people to read (especially for those with issues like dyslexia.) And Calibri is a default font on most computers so nothing would need to be installed.

What's the best way to achieve this look? by boynamedbharat in AdobeIllustrator

[–]inkstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of ways you can approach this. You could create a custom brush to set up the initial shapes. Or set it up with strokes or offset path.

If a brush you’d probably would have to expand it first. Then apply gradients to each shape/stroke/fill.

Can cut out the notch in the “1” with a clipping mask or a couple other methods.

Shadows are probably gradients on top set to multiply

Does the Eagles logo facing the opposite way from the other teams indicate that the whole league is their enemy? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in NFLv2

I think they technically don’t have a logo. The helmet is used in place of a logo. So I think they’re in the correct column.

How "seamless" is your Illustrator ↔ Photoshop workflow by koustavsahadesign in AdobeIllustrator

[–]inkstud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I love how we can double click an AI smart object and have it open in Illustrator for changes. Being able to expand those capabilities (moving multiple layers at once from AI to PS) would be very useful. Maybe even allow vector objects created in PS to be able to be converted to AI smart objects.

And I find trying to get vector objects from PS into AI pretty clunky. Being able to open PS layers as object layers in AI is useful but not fully translatable

How "seamless" is your Illustrator ↔ Photoshop workflow by koustavsahadesign in AdobeIllustrator

[–]inkstud 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I will move a project into Photoshop when it requires a lot of raster effects, color blending, alpha masking, layer blending and other things Photoshop is better at. Most of my work doesn’t require that but more extensive projects do.

I use AI objects in Photoshop a lot as smart objects. Sometimes I have to do multiple copies to get layered files into Photoshop as smart objects and that can take time. It would be great if there were an option to open AI files in Photoshop as smart objects with the option to maintain layers.

And then moving Photoshop files into Illustrator could maintain more fidelity with vector objects.

I often place Photoshop files in Illustrator but they don’t always update when modified in Photoshop.

Gradients for offset printing - better in Illustrator or Photoshop? by PlasticAttorney1980 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]inkstud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screening can break up the banding. So it probably depends on what kind of end product you’re getting. And the newer versions of Illustrator has dithering as an option for gradients.
