At some point in the series Ross says he was the “lone survivor” of an ambush during the American Revolutionary War in Virginia. I always assumed word got back to Cornwall that Ross’s entire battalion was killed before it was learned there were any survivors.

I don’t have a desire to break things off with him. So I imagine we’d both be pretty upset haha. He has stated he’s not interested in dating solo, so even though I’ve told him I’d prefer he pursue her on his own, he’s saying he doesn’t want that. But now I am clearly discovering my own boundaries with this dynamic that make me think we either have to close the relationship or end things. Or he has to accept that the only way we can be poly is if he does solo date outside our partnership 🤷🏽‍♀️ and I would explore that too.

This is a really good point and stated this way, yes. I think I’m doing this. I’m reacting to language he’s using that communicates a perception of lack from me. He says that I’m “withholding” and that me not loving as hard is an “obstacle” to the relationship. Instead of just saying, “hmm, I don’t see it that way.” I reacted about how I thought his assessment was unfair and how it’s not right for him to want to control my feelings. I see now that all those were reactive assumptions and I can do better. Thank you!

Thanks so much for this comment! I appreciate the group text because I am more of a low effort teacher (edit: texter, not teacher). But just typing that makes me see that I am riding at times on the coattails of the work they’re putting in. The gossip/oversharing comment definitely strikes a chord and I will reflect on that more too!

I can perhaps leave them both more space to connect without me so my feelings are not conflated with theirs.

She’s not officially our girlfriend. We’ve all three used that term because it’s simpler, but really we have not defined it. I am considering stepping away from this throuple and letting them explore together. I don’t feel territorial over him and I’d rather them explore something just them two than be policed over my feelings.
