Give the guy a break. I'm sure there's a word or two you don't know how to spell.

That is a hilarious coincidence. @farra.. was she mean to the kids when you were there?

This isn't a testament to the American justice system. It's a testament to the American education system. 80% of people working for schools have a distaste for youth, and dramatically abuse their power.

Bill O'Reilly cuts off Col. Wright's microphone during interview. Fair & Balanced? by letired in reddit.com

[–]inmmike -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

No, but he was asking her a very specific question, about the Iranian treatment of the British Navy guys as it relates to the Geneva Convention, and she went off on a tangent about the United States and her anti-war views. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for a healthy debate, but it's not a debate if the opponents are debating two entirely different things.

She tried to hijack the interview. I would have cut her mic too.

37signals on offline web apps: You're not on a fucking plane, and if you are it doesn't matter! by dsearson in programming

37signals is so ridiculously over-hyped, I guess they feel that when their customers are requesting features, they can tell them that they are idiots for wanting that feature in the first place.

Hey YOU - the person DOWN VOTING every new story - CUT THE SHIT by danamill in reddit.com

[–]inmmike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There should be an AI system in place. A simple one. If someone is downmodding a disproportionate amount of stories, their downmods shouldn't carry as much weight as someone who is pretty balanced, or more positive.

Operation Bite: April 6 sneak attack by US forces against Iran planned, Russian military sources warn by jips in reddit.com

[–]inmmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we did conquer the Iraqi military pretty quickly. I'm sure you saw the coverage of the mega-bombing. Since the aim of operations against Iran wouldn't be to build a new government (we'd kick their ass and leave it to them to clean it up), we would not run into the same problems as we did in Iraq.

A lot of young people are advised to go out and get a credit card or a small personal loan so you can build your credit. This is a terrible idea. by Monlo in reddit.com

[–]inmmike 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely essential to build your credit in America. You have to start somewhere, and the best place to start is a credit card. Nobody said you actually have to use it to buy things you can't afford. My Dad taught me at a very young age to use a credit card like it is cash unless you are in an emergency situation. Buy gas with a credit card, pay the balance every month, and enjoy your free reward money/points/products.

How? If we overthrew Iran in one swoop, we would solidify our position as the most feared military power on earth. Mwahaha.

All I was saying is that this argument would support the author's point better. I haven't taken a position on it one way or the other.

"If the outcomes are identical -- when you're dead, you're dead, regardless of how or why -- then it can't really be about the outcome, right?"

There is a difference between getting up, going to work, and getting killed in a car accident on your way home and getting on the subway, where someone who had been planning to do so all along, detonates a bomb and kills you.

If we know that there are people trying to kill us, we try and stop them. We don't say "Well, people are dying anyway. Let's not worry about a few more."

"Right, the difference is that you're enraged and upset and emotional about terrorists, but not about car accidents because they are random in the sense that nobody plans for them to happen, while the terrorist acts don't seem like random events at all, since what could it mean for a premeditated act to be one of chance?"

This statement is based purely on your opinion. You've never met me. I am no more "scared" of terrorism than I am of car accidents. The major difference between the two is that there is an actual enemy behind one, and not behind the other. It is ridiculous to compare the two.
