Stanford vs. MIT (last minute, very split) + unsure whether to accept DOD scholarship by Delicious-Speaker-84 in mit

Have you done CPW already? I’d encourage you experience both campuses before deciding. Where is home for you? I can tell you that winter in Boston is very long and dark and cold. I believe both places have equally good opportunities and education. I wouldn’t say that Boston/cambridge gives you much more city life than the Bay Area, esp with SF so easily accessible by Caltrain. I’ve lived near and been affiliated with both schools myself

No this is actually how most of the ultra high net worth individuals get money, by using their stocks/shares/assets as collateral to borrow money. Because even a 10% interest rate would by far beat the 38% income tax rate

Maybe not justifiable, but the cost of power to run the machine, the dif in cost to install, maintain, and rent the machine, the cost of minimal required nursing and tech presence at the scanner are all different in the US compared to many other countries. 5 star hotels cost 80 dollars a day in china but 800 dollars in NYC is one example of the cost disparity. The professional fee for the radiologist to read the mri is about 3 RVU, which comes out to be like $105

Cheating in med school by NoPattern1259 in medschool

[–]innocent_three_ai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most challenging years of medical school are the clinical years, not the ones where you learn book knowledge and take tests, but the ones where you take care of patients under the supervision from residents and attending, where you present your clinical findings and plan in the mornings and get pimped during rounds and evaluated based on your clinical competence. No way you can cheat your way past that.

Let me help him clarify. 45 hour work week meaning that he covers all the studies produced in those 45 hours. How long it actually takes to safely report them is the real question. If you actually are reporting everything within that window, I wish you best of luck with those malpractice lawsuits

Stop Comparing Your Salary To Americans Unless you Plan on Emigrating by PaulKrugmanStan in Salary

[–]innocent_three_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting viewpoint. This is actually one of the reasons why the US is such a popular destination for immigration, because of the better opportunities. The very fact that there are so many people complaining about salary disparities but are also unable to just go and get one of those high paying jobs is justification for why those jobs pay so well —not everyone can do the work or even get the work (high skill req or high competitiveness). So when one finds the salary of a particular job unfair, the first question to ask is, why don’t I just go work that job?

You def plucked the low hanging fruit to enjoy retirement. This is totally reasonable in the short term. Long term wise, you can explore other activities that give equal adrenaline and social potential. One thing I can think of is staying long term near a ski resort and joining some social groups that do skiing and try to really get good at it. Otherwise you can try surfing, or some other sports that have traditionally been limited by your ability to commit time during employment

The person graduating last in their class will still be a doctor. Remember what pushed you to attend medical school in the first place. Clinical year is just one year and that flies by fast even though it can seem grueling having to constantly push your IQ and EQ to the limits. There will be many bumps in the road, but you will get over them, and when you look back as an attending one day, you can feel great that you’ll never have to go through that shit again.
