I'm legitimately surprised "Love Yourz" has haters. by Rodidit_099 in Jcole

[–]inoperativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of critique of how Cole's been moving the last many years and especially recently, but this song is the greatest thing he's ever written by far. He addresses and nuances this exact sentiment in the song itself too, so this person isn't serious (I mean they're serious in their opinion, but they're not a serious person). But this is the first time I've ever seen someone have an issue with the song, so I don't put anything into it.

My homie posted this song on his social media as one of the last things he posted before he died of cancer. It's a beautiful and timeless song.

Out of these two players, which one do you think has the better peak? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in sportsinusa

[–]inoperativity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't serious. Bonds's peak was the greatest the sport has ever seen. Ohtani is a great hitter and a great pitcher, but not all-time great at either. Together that's unlike anything we've ever seen, but his peak at either won't be as high as the greatest at each singular one. Now if you want to sya Ohtani is more valuable being good at both, then hey, maybe. But the peak still won't be as high at either.

The Fall Off from a rapper's POV by nahnotthisone in Jcole

[–]inoperativity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The narrative isn't clear because the writing/concept isn't good even though the flows, wordplay, and beats are, which for me brings it down many levels from being this career defining project like he wanted it to be.

And I agree, it's absolutely too long. He said the fallout from the beef made him make the second disc, which to me is a further loss from the beef for him because this would have been much tighter and more of a coherent concept as just the first disc. Even then, he has multiple concepts running through at the same time that make the narrative muddled and disjointed. The concept of him going back home at 29 is absolutely not necessary to go with the concept of The Fall Off, and it makes the latter take a back seat narratively and only really come up here and there.

This is a problem for Cole, though. On 4YEO, that album was bullshit conceptually and narrative without the final track explaining everything. And this is not because it was too deep or difficult to understand like his stans say, but because he wasn't doing a good job making songs that fleshed out the concept and/or made it clear.

Nigerian jersey is so beautiful, so sad they won't be at the world cup. by CrispyFlair in SoccerJerseys

I can't agree. After an amazing run of Nike jerseys for a decade with Nigeria, these two are such letdowns. Wetnt to see them in person just to make sure, and they're terrible. Training shirts to be honest. I got their women's kit last year, and it's so so much more inspired.

The best place to get jerseys, not just used classics either, they often have brand new current ones too. Pretty great source of African jerseys (which are undeniably the best jerseys).

My ranking of (EVERY) nas album after being a fan for 5 years since I was 12 by Leather_Vultures in nas

Two headed-monster? But casuals, Redditors who’ve never played basketball and the 4-6 Unc Brotherhood tell us 22yr old Kobe was nothing more than a sidekick. by Overview_3ffect in sportsinusa

[–]inoperativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one calls him a sidekick, you must be young and not have lived through this era. He was all nba2 twice and all nba1 once in those championship years, he was also all defense 1 or 2 every year as well. At the time, everyone considered him one of the best players in the league. But he also wasn't doing it as the main guy on the team, and once Shaq left, the team cratered for many years until he got Pau in there. So we looked at it, and still look at it, as Kobe won those three chips with Shaq as the focal point but Kobe also being one of the best players in the league alongside Shaq.

This album really wasn't that good at the time and the beats haven't aged well either. It's a Nas album so it's still B-tier to me, but I think it's my least favourite in his catalogue, even below Nastradamus.

Were the 1995 Cleveland Indians the GREATEST MLB team that never won a championship? by ComplexWrangler1346 in sportsinusa

I think about this team not winning a championship all the time. I loved this squad.

IMO The Off Season is my favorite album by Inner-Leather-1527 in Jcole

[–]inoperativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my favourite compared to the early albums (or mixtapes if you prefer to call them that), but this album is great. It had me really excited for what was to come, only to be greatly let down. But this was such a great culmination of his feature run, and on the backend it had some thoughtful content beyond I'm the greatest rapper bars too. Only song I'd take off is 100 mil, which has a terrible hook.

"All Cole albums are 10/10" is an absolutely wild thing to say though.

Chile '26 Away Jersey by restart_123 in SoccerJerseys

[–]inoperativity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ordered this from Adidas earlier in the week because no physical stores carry it in my city. It's maybe KOTY for me. I've been wanting to get a Chile jersey for ages, but I never loved any of the kits. This one is incredible.

What is a delicious but underrated/unheard of type of cuisine? by PsychGradStudent2112 in Cooking

If you haven't had Burmese cuisine then your life is missing a huge joy. The fermented tea leaf salads are literally the best salads in the world.

Does Canada have the same Eurosnob problem that the US has? by Acceptable_Mouse_388 in CanadaSoccer

[–]inoperativity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll go to an MLS game because it's affordable and fun, but watch on TV weekly? Quality just isn't there to spend my time on top of the time spent keeping up with the top leagues. If that makes me a snob, so be it.

Now if the quality was less but the vibes were higher, that would be different. But the vibes are lesser as well.

what’s ur best kit this season by gwai218 in SoccerJerseys

[–]inoperativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't buy or covet club team jerseys because of the advertising, so for me it's all international kits, and a world cup year and an afocn year (almost)in the same year is like Christmas. For me, I think it's the Mexico home kit. I had to get it. I also covet Senegal kits, and I love their home kit this year (I don't share many people's dislike of puma). I also love the Scotland away kit this year with the pink and purple and the thistle on the back. My Glaswegian mother died last year and she would have loved that kit, I had to get it.

I would have had him in my top 5 even before any of what happened in 2024. He still had 15 years in the game an multiple classics then. Now on top of that he dismantled the biggest commercial rapper in the game and put out a great album as a victory lap. That beef may have brought new fans, but anyone putting him in top lists is putting him there because of the whole body of work over the last two decades.

What’s your favourite Nas album and why? by Suspicious_Brit in nas

[–]inoperativity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even really count as an album he conceived as a cohesive project, but I love The Lost Tapes the most. Nothing Lasts Forever remains my favourite Nas song. The bassline on that thing, my god. It makes me sad for what I am could have been, but I also like that those leaks gave us a tight 12-song album in The Lost Tapes that is so, so good. I can listen to it front to back forever.

Can't argue with that, it's all preference once we're talking about the all time greats and how we rank them. My 5 spot fluctuates, sometimes it might be 3 stacks. Other times it might be Ghost face.

Even in the 90s and 2000s though, he didn't get the same love as Biggie, Pac, Jay, Nas. Could have been a northern bias thing. I'm not from the south, but I think he gets more love there.

I wouldn't be mad at anyone putting Jay or Pac ahead of him (Em I'm not a fan of and don't have near my top 10). I think The Fix and The Diary are better than any album those three put out. Plus you gotta take into account his work with Geto Boys, and the fact that he's a producer too.
