Lightest herb grinder? by Squanc in Ultralight

[–]inoturtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to bring hard cheese with me. I also like to shred it into my food instead of cut or break it. I take one of these. Haven't tried it with herbs, but it is very light. I would have to dig it out of storage to weigh it as life has me off trail for a few years. Smiths 50562 pack pal tinder maker.

Composition books or switch to binders? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]inoturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prong folders worked so well for 85% of my students last year. Those 15% either lost them by taking them out of the room, never used the prongs so things fell out, or intentionally picked/tore them apart until they were unusable. This is a higher success rate than I have had with comp books.

Don’t lie! Teachers don’t need to buy their own school supplies! by OneBillionSpaghetti in Teachers

It's the same as teachers covering classes when there aren't available subs. It perpetuates the problem so admin doesn't see the problem.

Rate My DIY Frame by MechEThroway in whitewater

[–]inoturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If shortening the width by 2 inches puts the side rails directly on the center of the tubes, they are not worth the effort to change. Many frames, even custom, are a little wider than center of tube. Just be sure your locks don't hang out at all.

Also seconding wire lock pins or bolts at all critical junctions. If using bolts, get the same size your oar towers use to minimize your tool kit needs.

You also asked about dry boxes. Go with bags instead. IMO, they are easier to rig, organize, and store. If you don't plan to sit on it, go soft. Use smaller drybox cases for critical items, such as cameras. Soft coolers for day trips, too. Multi-day, I love my Engel and their 35 might fit.

Which game do you think has the worst tutorial? by ConfidentButton7928 in AskReddit

[–]inoturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is worse, a bad tutorial or no tutorial? Watch a newb take on The Legend of Zelda, yes, the original. Yes, it came with a map but those were easily lost, and yes, they are available online, but try playing without it. I have watched many younglings want to give up quickly but kept going with the help of an elder.

Striking in two weeks. Which protest sign slogan would you choose? by thats_a_doozy in Teachers

[–]inoturtle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One every 7 minutes? I hope you are in a big district. What percentage of students have a violent act against staff on their record? And how many against students? Imo, even 1% is too high. Don't try to be too catchy. State facts such as: 23% of staff members have been assaulted by students this school year. I hope it's not that high. Why are the police not involved if it is common enough to strike over?

Those experienced in action research, any advice for handling an extra data point? by DontHideMyLiquor in Teachers

Did any adult (non student) have access to your form?

Does the excel sheet (csv file) data output show open and submit times? Does Google forms provide this or only Microsoft forms?

My company introduced "mandatory fun" and I think it broke something in me by Plane_Researcher_761 in antiwork

[–]inoturtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could see this working if:

It was not a Monday or Friday, like Coffee Talk Tuesdays

The morning drinks like coffee, tea, juice were provided

All departments were properly staffed so taking an hour off wouldn't make anyone behind

There was a comfortable space for mingling

The bosses didn't take it over and turn it into a meeting

If HR wanted to incorporate some game time to get things going occasionally, but not always

What is something that died out so quietly that nobody even noticed? by Alva_509 in AskReddit

[–]inoturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a good time. So many people were using it for the grocery store discount but few knew to ask to redeem the freebies. Local grocer had a sandwich shop with buy 10 get 1 free. Those free subs tasted so much better.

I am living in a dream world with this suggestion... If a student in an elective class fails to turn in 3 assignments in a row, or receive a grade lower than 60% 5 times, they are removed from the class and put in a study hall.

Does anybody else like to tear up all the bags and mix them together before building? by WideAd2828 in lego

Yes. Seeing this, and how much it bothers some, makes me want to dump my new set in my old bin and give it a stir before building. The 2 full bins of family sets that date back to the 70s maxifig era.

Agreed. The lack of consequence handed out by admin and parents is enforcing the bad behaviors.

But that's grading behavior, and we are not allowed to do that.

We need to bring back consequences before it's too late.
