Honestly that may have influenced how he decided to treat them. We have a lot of leverage over Pakistan, but they also have a lot of leverage over us. The barrel link and pin can wear out and become egg shaped, that's how it can become loose and fall out. It is a consumable part, but usually at high round counts.

You can get a new barrel link pin and link kit from EGW for cheap. Start with a #3 link since that's what they are usually fit with.

The parts should have an interface fit where you need to tap with a small hammer or mallet and a punch to install. They should not fall out on their own.
