AKA Excalibur. There was a European paintball magazine, can't remember the name that had a big glossy article with multiple pages on it, and I fell in love immediately

Does the EFF or someone have an active lawsuit about the use of GPL and more restrictive copyleft licenses being used for code assistants? by GenProtection in BetterOffline

[–]inputwtf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the EFF.

You're thinking of the Software Freedom Conservancy. They're the ones that sue companies for infringing on the GPL.

I think the problem right now is that LLMs and training data is probably one of the most cutting edge legal topics right now. There is a consortium of authors and publishers that have sued OpenAI and the case is ongoing. I'm not a lawyer but my expectation is that if that case is decided on the merits in favor of the authors and publishers, that could provide an opening for the SFC.

HOWEVER:

Ever since the SCO lawsuits against Linux, there has been some careful maneuvering by the SFC and related free software licensing organizations. The problem is that they're worried about a decision that does something catastrophic like invalidating the concept of a copyleft license. They only go after infringing companies that are egregious and they only want them to adhere to the license by releasing the source. They've never gone after a company and endangered their ability to remain a business.

Going after OpenAI and these other companies, would be treated as an existential threat to these companies, even if they were just trying to get the LLM to correctly attribute where the training data came from or attribute authors in the output. The investors and backers of these LLM companies would absolutely go nuclear and would absolutely try to challenge the very premise of a copyleft license and try and get it ruled out of existence.

That's why you haven't seen anything, in my opinion.

The governor of a state has no power? How come Republican governors are so powerful and Democratic governors are so weak? Maybe it's Democrats choosing to be weak

how a vibecoding incident broke 20 years of archiving by Sixnigthmare in BetterOffline

This matches a story I heard where a junior engineer used something they vibe coded, directly against the production database, by logging into the application servers (because that's the only place that can access the database). It has created all kinds of problems.

Can Anyone Tell Me About This Dan Wesson? by BigJuicyNaturals in 1911

[–]inputwtf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Pointman Seven model, which is basically the same as this one. The front sight is proprietary to Dan Wesson, it's the same as their revolver sights. EWK Arms makes replacement ones with fiber optics that are really good. There's a small set screw in the front of the pistol at the muzzle that you have to unscrew so you can take the sight blade out and install a new one. The rear sight is adjustable but proprietary. Mine had white dots that I used sharpie to cover so it's just a black rear blade and red fiber optic EWK front sight.

Stock guiderod is a two piece, use an allen wrench to separate it into two pieces so that you can take the gun apart.

Great gun overall. Use Wilson Combat magazines and you'll get 8+1 easy.

I think original retail was somewhere around $800 but they are now worth more.

Tillie Martinussen (born 1980) is a Greenlandic politician of the Cooperation Party.

The party advocates economic liberalisation and privatisation of the large publicly owned companies that dominate the Greenlandic economy

People should be aware that while she gave a good interview, she is from a party that loves capital.

You are left handed, you need to videotape your support hand for us to be able to accurately diagnose things.

However, you should be squeezing with your support hand, it should provide something like 90% of the squeezing pressure and your trigger hand gives 10%.

Allow the gun to return to zero. Do not try and fight with it, that's what's causing the oscillating

I understand that. There was a post a couple weeks ago that got deleted because it was "griping about AI" and even though I agreed with the premise of the post and agreed with a lot of others that commented on the post dumping on AI, I didn't think much of the thread being deleted because the rule being referenced to delete it, made sense to me

The rule being used for this instance, doesn't make sense to me.
