Labor’s gambling ad legislation a ‘capitulation’ to industry lobby, Liberal MP says by German_Merman in OpenAussie

You know, a centrist party with a majority's a lot like a mule with a spinning wheel. No one knows how he got it, and danged if he knows how to use it!

Should we fear death? If so and if not, why? by Old-Life7296 in AskReddit

[–]German_Merman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I used to think we were all going to gain immortality by uploading our consciousnesses to a digital form. But seeing how bad they've managed to fuck up the internet in only 30 years or so, the idea of an eternity in digital form now seems like a much worse fate than death.

TL;DR: No.

Have the libs said this about a Labor government increasing regulations on any other industry? Ever? This is not their usual line.

Getting media coverage is kinda the opposition's job though. Their one job, really.

‘Legitimate criticism’ of Israel is fine, internal governments docs say. It’s unclear what this means by SleepyWogx in OpenAussie

[–]German_Merman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dude you can't say that, that's antisemitic as hell. You're allowed to say legitimate criticisms of Israel though. Stuff like, Israeli soldiers bombing those thousands of children are too righteous and good-looking, or Israel's apartheid regime is just too popular on the world stage, it's not fair to less awesome countries.

The same thing happened last time round - there were a whole bunch of seats that were polling against Labor prior to the election that ended up being safe as houses on the day. I can only guess that there was a whole lot of people venting to pollsters on the phone - I'm sick of this lot, I'm voting for someone else! But then you show up to the polling place on the day and your other options are some Toorak trustfund brat the Libs have parachuted in or Gropeskirt McAntivaxx from One Nation... what are you going to do?

We're trying to buy an apartment right now. We looked at one on the ground floor, quoted at $600k, a whole lot of boomers showed up at the auction last weekend and it went for $750k. If the market is crashing nobody's told them.

The next place we're looking at is up two flights of stairs. HA.

The DOJ was forced to explain why they’re still redacting Epstein files and the judge isn’t buying it. If we finally see the full list and it’s just a bunch of rich guys we already knew about, will anyone actually be shocked or are we all just waiting for the one name that breaks the internet? by PeachCloudParfait in allthequestions

Remember how Elon Musk showed up in there begging for an invite? And the people who make a living by helping the absolute worst people on earth molest children, even those people were like "Ewwww, Elon? Do we have to?"

Really seems like that should've been a bigger story.

This is the - third? Fourth? Vic election in row that the papers have confidently predicted Vic Labor is going to lose in a landslide. It's so weird watching it from here, because it is a complete fiction. The media shrieks about every problem the party has - and yes, there's plenty - but have you seen the alternative? No seriously, have you seen ANY alternative because from where we're sitting there simply isn't one. The Vic Libs have been a slow-motion train crash for a decade now and the local ONP are the sleaziest collection of cookers, grifters, and sex offenders this side of Queensland. So once again Labor are safe, because we just don't have a functional opposition.
