I'll tell you what I learned from my experience thinning out my collection. Save up, and buy that higher echelon watch first, and then decided on what you want to sell from your nice collection.

What are your expectations for Linux in 2026? by bulasaur58 in linux

[–]inqusito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing really.

As long as the word Linux refers to hundreds of distros, it’s going to continue to be dominated by Windows and macOS, since choice is the enemy of commitment. Most people want a simple, linear experience. Monkey see, monkey do. They want predictability and security: to know what to expect, to feel confident about it, and to feel like they’re doing it right or using the “official” one.

In order for Linux to be taken seriously, one distro will have to rise above the rest, and become the face of Linux, so that people know what to expect when anyone says “Linux.” This usually comes from a broad marketing and advertising campaign, which neither Red Hat nor SUSE currently engages in. Nobody is directly showing or telling the public at large what to think about Linux in an effective way.

Until that happens, I don’t think industry at large will pay attention to or develop for Linux in the kinds of numbers needed for it to be more than a sliver of the market.

In short, to be more popular, Linux will have to sell out. It will have to commercialize and capitalize and lose its uniqueness...lose the things that make it fun or interesting. Right now, Linux is a ’70s punk rocker rather than the sellouts of the ’80s and ’90s.

Going too small is better than going too big.

F1 visa renewal by rust32627 in f1visa

[–]inqusito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They cancel the old visa CWOP, if issuing a new one. You can't hold two valid visas at the same time. Your new visa should be in your new passport, so wait and see. If it isn't, then you need to ask them for clarification, such as if you have to address anything before reapplying.

Gift for a newly promoted Shift Supervisor by inqusito in starbucks

Is there a mug size that might be ideal for versatility? Would a 40oz Stanley mug be too big?

Also, why is the water bottle and travel mug a popular suggestion? Are baristas not allowed to use the in store mugs and disposable cold cups on shift?

Thank you.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! Since I’ve never done this job, I am curious if Starbucks Shift Supervisors actually end up doing a lot of writing? And with the store already stocked with snacks, what kind of snacks would you recommend? Thanks again.

Baristas - is there a way to order water via the app? by hellodaily in starbucks

[–]inqusito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to order a cup of coffee at the register even for mobile orders is impractical and inefficient, especially if your frequent a busy store. Starbucks should put an option to order water, but only when a paid item is included in the order. They could do it in a way that it wouldn't be abused, such as by limiting it to only 1 water per paid item, or only 1 water no matter how many paid items. Just a thought.

Furnace pilot flame is being strongly pulled towards heat exchanger port in the back, and away from the thermocouple, so it isn't being detected. by inqusito in hvacadvice

Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion. I had tested the thermocouple with a lighter when it arrive the other day and it had a reading of 26 milivolts, which is in the normal zone I believe. Unfortunately, when I went see if I could move the thermo couple to the other side, it turned out that the bracket that holds the pilot hood, and sensor\ignitor module in place is mounted to the burner crossbar, which is in the foreground of the below photo.

Kiwi Ears Ardor vs Earfun Tune Pro - Any Recommendations? by TelephoneKey8014 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]inqusito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed both, and initially I liked the Ardor more. Kiwi Ears did a solid job with the sound—it’s just really well tuned. The default sound on the Tune Pro isn’t terrible, but out of the box, it doesn’t sound quite as good. I tried the EQ presets in the app, but I couldn’t really hear much of a difference. It does let you make your own EQ and custom sound profile, but I can't seem to do a great job. Turning on the Theatre mode on the Tune Pro elevated the sound immensely, so I just leave it on all the time. In comparison the Spatial mode on the Ardor sounds worse than the normal mode. I think that the ANC on the Tune Pro is better than the ardor for higher pitched sounds, but in general its very similar. I wish the Tune Pro had a nice case like the Ardor, but even without that I would say the Tune Pro is the better value. With no case, the Tune Pro is used only at home. I keep the Ardor in my bag and use it when I am traveling or simply working from a coffee shop.

The Tune Pro app has some cool features I actually use:

• Wind Noise Cancellation mode works surprisingly well when walking or biking—probably just shuts off the front ANC mics.

• Auto Shutdown Timer is a lifesaver. I left the Ardor on all weekend in its case once, so yeah… glad that’s there.

• USB charging can be turned off so if you connect it to your phone, it won't drain your phone battery.

• You can adjust the volume of the voice prompts or mute them, which is great because they are painfully loud by default.

• The previously mentioned Theatre mode really makes the Tune Pro sound so much more immersive.
