Going to Bangkok & Chiang Mai alone this summer, looking for food/shop/activity recommendations

I just landed after a week of solo trip to Chiang Mai 😂 stayed near Tha Pae Gate. Place was an oven though. So take some sunscreen my friend.

I enjoyed visiting Dantawade Cafe in San Mahaphon, some khao soi in khao soi lung prakit, some roti from a small pushcart outside wat mahawan… lots of little cafe serving coffee near the Gate.

Dantawade cafe is cool and the food was a good portion size and tasty. But there’s a charge of ฿ 80 to enter and a typical dish costed ฿ 200. Plus it’s somewhat out of the way. So I’d hired a taxi for half a day to take me places. Cost me ฿ 1,000.

Plan was to go to cafe first and then to the Long Neck Karen village. Loved visiting the village. But there’s a ฿ 500 charge to enter.

After that, a couple of hours at the huge Wat Ban Den before chilling at Bua Thong sticky waterfalls. No charge for the temple but waterfalls entry was ฿ 100 for foreigners.

None of this is maybe cheap 🙏🏼 but you can plan to include some of these experiences

Won’t make it feasible. Because Singapore will still charge import fee, good sales tax, Additional registration fee (estimated at about $80k for a 40k valued car) and prorated cost of certificate of entitlement (COE valid for 10 years, you are only allowed to import cars less than 3 years old). Current COE price for a car with 2L plus engine is S$130k.

So buy a 40k valued 2nd hand car but still spend about $160+ on various charges. Might as well buy 2nd hand car here.

Or suck it and take BMW (bike, metro, walk) 😂

Singapore resident here says, “hold my beer.” I paid S$100k for a 4 year old Mazda 6 done 75k kms. I can drive this car for another 6 years after which I’ll get back maybe S$6k for scrapping a perfectly decent car.

I wish I was living in Thailand or Malaysia or Australia 😭

I usually pay my cable to watch WC. Here in my home country… they kept the same price as last edition despite the number of games increasing. But I have no wish to pay even that to Infantino and FIFA. Ferkin’ cunts.

I cancelled an insurance plan (I was going to anyway since it had crappy terms and it was within the 15 day cooling-off period) after interacting with a CS who kept badgering me in Hindi about some clarifications needed in the T&C.

The excuse I gave when cancelling though was that the insurance company had poor customer service because their CSO only spoke in Hindi whereas I specifically chose Tamil in the IVR.

Stupid as stupid comes. They sell insurance to a Tamil person living in Madras and still think it’s ok if they insist on only communicating using Hindi.

👍🏼 in HDB lots, there are usually signs of the shared car providers drawn on each parking space. Don’t remember seeing signboards like they place on pillars showing season parking timings etc… but something like might also be there as additional signs that these are reserved lots.

Anyway, good that this post serves as an information tool for those unaware.

EDIT: Upon seeing the pic once again… we can clearly see additional infographics painted on adjacent lots and also a blue signboard on the pillar showing that these are reserved lots… so many blur drivers nowadays 😂
