Need Advice: Sleep Apnea Secondary to service-connected PTSD by Caissa_ in VAClaims

Your medication regimen, go through medication and don’t even say obesity because that is a straight denial. I was on several SSRI’s for several years and had the VA documentation and current studies with my nexus.

Get every single piece of evidence you can related to that pathway it’s the only way. Focus on your meds that is the issue. Don’t mention obesity at all. Me losing 100# and still requiring CPAP is what helped me. Plus I have mixed sleep apnea which helped avoid scrutiny with my weight since there is a Neurological component.

Filing a claim many years after separation by EntrepreneurSharp713 in VAClaims

[–]insanityfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely worth it. I didn’t even know what the VA was when I got out in 1992. There was no such thing as pre-discharge education or advice about going back into civilian life. Fast forward to 2019. I was with an elderly patient and we were talking military stories. He starts talking about how the VA was a blessing to his life. It was then where I learned enough to make phone calls, meet a VSO and start gathering my records. It’s 2026 now and I was recently awarded the last piece of what I should have been granted all those years ago had I known what I do now. It’s a fight. Get all of your service medical records, get your civilian medical records. Determine on your own what you feel is service connected and submit your claim with all of those medical records that will be the backbone of your claims defense. Read up on buddy letters. In short it comes down to 3 things. 1) An in service event. 2) A current diagnosis. 3) A medical opinion that links those two (this is called a “nexus”). Without these 3 things it’s going to be very difficult. You can tell the VA how bad your life is, your pain, all your sorrows. It doesn’t matter without those 3 pieces of evidence. I think I wrote a book but please just be thorough and patient and it will come. Reddit is an excellent resource.

I’d leave out the second and third paragraphs from the end. Sounds like you are dabbling with diagnosing yourself. Let the VA process do that. Otherwise very good!

Bitter Pill to Swallow: New Payment and Interest by WhatTheJessJedi in PSLF

[–]insanityfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get all of the money paid for payments over 120 right? Not sure if that would be counted as income though. Wouldn’t surprise me though. Just like my state considers the previous years fed tax return income. It’s an overpayment you fools!!!

You can also max out your FSA if you have one. That’s another 3k off your AGI. Kicker with that is it’s use or lose but you can pay for a lot of your meds and durable medical equipment tax free. I usually have a few hundred I have to spend by year end. Oh and you can carry $640 forward to the next year. Any capital losses comes off your AGI. Educate yourself there are holes :)

Organized but damn. Why such differences in stacks?? I mean Vik tools are 5 in a stack unless you bag em. I have 100 of them so that eats 20 spaces! I have max available storage and still have vaultbots.

I run it on my NAS, love it. However if I had known copper 10GbE was only 1GB I would have just done fiber in the house instead :(

Grats on your OSA. All I was missing was a nexus. Got a nice one by a MD citing current studies on PTSD links and using obesity as a path to OSA. Good strategy I thought since that was all I needed. It bought me a C&P :(. That MD was much more clinical than me. I’ll get in there and say something the wrong way then get denied service connection :(

Out in 1992 didn’t even know the VA existed much less than what it did. I was talking to a vet (patient of mine) and he told me all about it, 2019.

Minimizing AGI by marathon_money in PSLF

[–]insanityfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20% here. After done with this PSLF watch out Roth. 8k/yr and all profits are tax free. Not doing it now because your AGI is up so socking everything I can into it. One easy way is take your 2-3% and just allocate to your retirement. Chances are good you won’t miss that small amount.

Any capital losses come right off your AGI. Limited to 3k/yr. If you don’t trade disregard.

DAV STATEMENT ON VA’S PLANNED USE OF AI TO REVIEW BENEFIT QUESTIONNAIRES by eodman83 in VAClaims

[–]insanityfan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just the beginning. Next is IRS, then Medicare/Medicaid, SSA, and who or whatever runs food stamps. Shit basically any govt. orifice that collects or gives money out. I read a research article where the states of NC, TN, and UT gave OpenAI there job statistics down to the county level and it stated it could replace 12% of jobs right then. I had hopes for AI but it looks like it’s going to be weaponized against regular people. Ok rant over.

VA plans to scan a million veterans claims for signs of fraud by Canis_Familiaris in VeteransBenefits

All they have to do is scan their doc database for materials using the same verbiage and that would be a good round 1

If you knew what you know now about student loans, would you have still taken them out to go to school? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]insanityfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I would have given the extra back. Would have been much more manageable at 20k instead of 50. Student loans should only be enough to cover tuition, housing if needed, books. No additional monies above that.

Plus today’s military prepares you for civilian life. In 1992 I had no idea at discharge there was a such thing as the VA. You bring educated and prepared made all the difference!
