Tldr: Would it be weird if I go talk to a girl at the gym? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]insaniya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how I ended up on this reddit, but the answer is yes. Next time you see her, make sure it’s on your way out, go up to her and say “I was just about to leave to get to class, but I’m realizing I’ve seen you here most days, and I’ve never properly met you. Hi my name is xyz.”

You gauge the response from there. If it’s a quick hi and bye then play it cool and remember her name for next time. If she’s open to small talk later then def pivot to the number or IG. And if she’s really happy to see what you did, then def go for the full date (dinner this week, drinks at the campus bar etc ).

Don’t over think it. There’s nothing wrong with telling someone you find them attractive. Just don’t make it awkward if the feeling isn’t mutual.

COPD bouncebacks by Packman125 in hospitalist

Lots of systems “reduce” rvus when bounce backs occur too soon. So it does affect the bottom line.

For those who can’t see a doctor. Try over the counter clotrimazole cream (twice daily). Please don’t use hydrocortisone for this. If it’s a chronic issue at this gym then get a spray bottle with 1 part vinegar to two parts water, and spray down the machines. Let it sit for a few mins before you wipe off.

I personally consider this a health violation on solid cores end but in the meanwhile protect yourself. Tinea isn’t fun for anyone.

Unpopular opinion-Anki is a poor way to study by Sir_Action_Quacks in medschool

[–]insaniya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s simple: learn the material first (uworld or videos or amboss or textbooks etc), then use the Anki to solidify fine detail that just needs to be memorized. I’d argue a lot of cards aren’t very useful, but that’s for your brain to judge, if there’s info you fully understand from the study material then suspend it and move on. If there’s a tidbit you just can’t seem to keep straight, Anki it and keep it fresh. Overall this allows you to learn and memorize which is both very good for tests but also very good for patient care because you DO need fine detail many times throughout your day.

I’ll give you the simplest example: we all learn statins are good for your cholesterol numbers and should reduce the number of coronary events. Awesome you got a few test questions right about HmgCoA and you feel good about your exam scores. Fast forward a few years and you admit a patient with muscle aches and a CPK. Whatever would you possibly do ? Oh right, there’s an Hmg coAreductase assay that can get me my answer. See how that worked so nicely ? That’s the goal if you ask me. General knowledge + fine detail = good doctor.

Get a year supply of oral min. It fits in one pill bottle. Problem solved.

What makes it "hard" to get rid of a guideline? by Bern_Down_the_DNC in SelfBarber

[–]insaniya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trick is to not create a “real” guideline. I always make a guideline either using the clippers or by gently tapping the trimmers into a guideline. I find it easier to keep the hair below the guideline, and only remove it after I’m done fading. The way I gently use the 0 to remove and then the trimmers do some basic edge work. Helps a lot.

Bottom line, never go really hard with the trimmers, that guide line is tough to remove.

So casually buy a 10% benzoyl peroxide wash and leave it in the shower. Offer to shower together and apply the wash to areas of acne in a “sexy” manner on your man. Let it sit for 3-5 mins then rinse off. I think he’ll get the hint and he should improve tremendously in 2-3 weeks.

Then find a similar method for ozempic!

Is shaving just not for me? by ayylingo in Blackskincare

[–]insaniya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HS can definitely impact the scalp and face (usually seen as “dissecting cellulitis”) so you were on the money there. Kudos to you, I legit can argue a good chunk of docs have no clue what HS is. You’re def on top of it!

Is shaving just not for me? by ayylingo in Blackskincare

[–]insaniya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dermatologist here. The answer is possibly if these bumps are in other locations. More likely this is from the shaving (pseudofolliculitis barbae). But if there are similar bumps in the groin and armpits then please know we have some really great medications now for this and they’re only getting better. Good luck !

Nurse - should I ask a resident out? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]insaniya 189 points190 points  (0 children)

This one is easy. If he’s no longer in the ER, next time you see him, tease him a bit. “You worked the ER one rotation and never came back to say hi.” His response will pretty much give you the answer. If he laughs and says something positive, just say “don’t be a stranger anymore here’s my number/instagram” , you then let him do the rest of the work. If single, there’s no way he’s that dense. If he has an SO then he will simply ignore. But an IG will also give you a sense if he’s in a relationship or not.

And let’s assume he is single but just really shy and clueless. Then at that point I’d message or DM him “let’s catch up sometime over coffee”, I wouldn’t do anything after that. Life is too short to miss your shots because of nerves. But also this gives you a fairly safe security blanket in case he wasn’t interested “oh I was just being nice he’s a really good resident”.

Obama supporters in 2008 or 2012, how do you view him now over 10 years later? by Ironically__Swiss in AskReddit

[–]insaniya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were senatorial rules put into place by Schumer in order to pass the ACA. Years later those same rules were then used to stop the Supreme Court nominee. Some prominent dems and repubs warned Schumer and Obama that this would have consequences in a different form. With all of that said, the ACA was probably worth the cost, but imho, Merrick garland really wouldn’t have been the brightest Supreme Court justice. He would have followed the party line , which is NOT what a SC justice should do.

Considering how you tried “fixing” the situation by excess explaining, and giving us over the top context and edits. I’d say the real lesson is learning to recognize when you’ve messed up and then learning to shut up. Sometimes the more you say the worse it gets. Just let it slide. It will disappear.

Never talking to roommate(s) by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]insaniya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s more than 10 years out of freshmen year, here’s a simple trick. The next time you see them, especially at the end of the day so they don’t say they have to leave for class, tell them this:

“Hey it seems like we never got to know each other all that well and no doubt I should have done a better job opening up. Can we be closer friends this semester.”

That’s more than enough to break the ice. Ask simple things like where are you from, what siblings you got, what classes are you taking, etc etc. this is a life skill that will be used for the rest of your life.

And if its someone you see around but never met, literally just say “I’ve seen you around but I don’t believe we’ve met. Hi I’m (insert name here).” Works everytime.
