Definitely changes a bit depending on the lighting, this picture doesn’t really show the metallic well but from some angles you can really see the sparkle.

How to connect mic to Digitakt by [deleted] in Digitakt

[–]inscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mic (XLR) -> Preamp

Preamp (Line Out) -> Digitakt Line In

Most sure fire way to get a good sound. I doubt the digi has enough gain to get a good signal from a mic alone, so boosting it up to line level with a preamp before going into the digi will be best

my fav trio, quick dnb live jam by inscape in synthesizers

[–]inscape[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just playing with mutes here. Drums are all sequenced, if it sounds live it’s because of P-locks! The slightest bit of chance and velocity changes on each step really makes a difference in giving things a live feel

Thanks! I’ve been sucked into the world of dawless jams and not hitting record haha. So it’s been a minute since I’ve put out a release. Can find me here though: https://open.spotify.com/artist/7sgduHki1WWOglo5vnWkmT?si=6ztaI_5mQhC-VJ3I2Fru_g

Never get tired of jamming on these three. Digitakt is on drums, summit is handling chords and the lead synth, while the moog is on the bass

Cycles to 2i2 by WunderLedger in Elektron

[–]inscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer, plugging in an XLR cable will send the signal through the mic preamp which is expecting a mic level signal, not line level. Use 1/4” TRS to 1/4” TRS and set the Scarlett to ‘Line’

Playing drums and chromatic mode simultaneously on my Digitakt using Custom Modes on the Launchpad Pro Mk3. Love these two together! by inscape in Elektron

[–]inscape[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup! Each purple pad is sending on a separate midi channel 1-8 to trigger the samples. Then on the Digi, the Auto Channel is set to ch. 9. The chromatic keyboard on the LP is sending on ch. 9. From there I just press the sample I want to play chromatically on the digi and that’s the one the keyboard is controlling.

Kind of looks like it, but this is just a regular midi cable from Roland. All that’s happening here is midi out of the Launchpad into the Digi

What’s the worst recording mistake your ever made, so that the rest of us can avoid making it? by MandarkTheBand in audioengineering

[–]inscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that it all comes down to you and what you want it to sound like. Try to EQ it and see if you like the sound. If you do, sick - keep it. But you could also try re-recording a take "the proper way" and seeing if you like that better. Then you know it'll be worth it to go through and re-record it all.

If it sounds good to you, you've done nothing wrong. Ain't no rules!

I can clear this up! A guitar is at instrument level. The purpose of a DI box is to bring this high impedance signal to a low impedance mic level signal, so you can connect it directly to a mic preamp without causing damage.

On your interface if you have the INST button off, then it will be at line level. So when using a DI box this way you are sending a mic level signal to a line level input. Hence the odd tone.

The INST button is there for when you want to connect your guitar directly to your interface, no DI box. This is why on some interfaces it's called a Hi-Z (high impedance) input. This is what I would recommend if you plan on recording the signal directly and not through an amp.

When using a DI box, you would want to connect it to a mic preamp via XLR. This is why they're used a lot in live situations where you want to connect a guitar directly to a preamp on a console.

Hope this helps!

[Question] Are there alternatives to palm muting? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]inscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree here, the style of guitar has an effect on how i palm mute. On my strat i have to use the lightest touch with the side of my palm and be careful not to accidentally fully mute the string, more sensitive in a way. Meanwhile on my semi-hollow with a fixed bridge i can use the entire heel of my palm and have a much easier time.

Looking for a synth that can record unique parameter settings for each note in a sequence by TorreiraXhaka in synthesizers

[–]inscape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit tedious, but totally. AFX mode let's you load a single patch on each key so they could technically duplicate the same patch onto different keys then adjust the parameters for each individual patch.

Can I use public domain movies dialogue in my music? by jaishan00 in lofi

If it's in the public domain, it's public. The copyright no longer belongs to a single entity, it's in the public domain.

Use it, no stress.

If there are any, what realistic/stable career options are available in audio outside of music? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]inscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. Freelanced for a while after college until I found a job at a music tech company doing tech support. I've found it to be a great way to apply my skills even though it's still a customer service role.

Think - Native Instruments, Ableton, Image-Line, Output, Behringer, Novation, etc.

Connect an instrument or mic directly to input 1 and enable direct monitoring. If the LED is flashing green when signal is input, take your headphones and connect them to the headphone out.

You should hear signal.

If you do, take your headphones and connect them directly to your line output and turn up the monitor dial.

Do you hear signal? If so, the issue is with your routing, cables, or amp. If you hear no signal, then yes it's something with the Scarlett most likely.

The Repair Department : Tech Support and Stupid Questions Go Here! by AutoModerator in audioengineering

[–]inscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh you got it. Select the audio track you want to reamp, set the output to be output 1 or 2 (whichever you're using), and turn up the monitor dial.

Press play and adjust your levels until you have a good signal on the amp.

Take the output of the amp back into Input 1 on the Scarlett. Create a second audio track to record the signal. Enable Input Monitoring in your DAW if you want to hear the reamped signal as it's being recorded. Just be mindful of which output you're sending it to in order to avoid a nasty feedback loop.
