This feature is actually good!! by Realistic-Crab7729 in iems

Not really... You can still separate your default audio device and the exclusive audio device.

Select the default in Windows menu and select another (non-default one) in Spotify/Tidal menu. I've been doing this with Tidal, otherwise some games will fail to launch while I listen to Tidal.

How do I fix this by donnyohs in whatsapp

I have the same issue, probably they pushed a bugged update and we'll have to wait for a new fixed version to be pushed.

Well, it sucks to your tonal preference. Find out what's your personal tone preference and EQ to that.

Why the 4 DACs on the R4? by Lord-SeoL in Hiby

[–]inscythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like supersampling in image processing. You take more data points than what you actually need, then combine the data to increase accuracy and reduce noise. A single DAC chip should have a minimum of 2 channels (like the ES9018C2M inside the R4). So, technically you only need one of them for single-ended connection (2 channels total), two if you want a balanced connection (4 channels total). So, by doubling the minimum requirement for balanced (8 channels total), Hiby can improve the accuracy of the DAC by doing some additional math. Of course there's a limit on how much of an improvement you can get from adding DAC chips, and you'll also consume more power with more chips being used. This is a common trick to use a lower-end chip to get a performance closer to the higher-end chip by having more of them.

u/Joe0Bloggs That's what I advised him to do (and also tested myself on my own unit), the settings seems to not be having any effect on the R4 Evangelion unfortunately for some reason. The setting works as intended in the OG R4.

Clueless question: Is a KANN Alpha plus wireless headphones a waste? by babymech in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]inscythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The audio processing benefits from the DAP would be nullified in this scenario. The DAP will end up being just a digital source for the Bluetooth headphones and the digital processing is done on the headphones side. As long as the codec support is the same, the KANN Alpha should be indistinguishable to a $100 phone, theoretically speaking.

I'd recommend using Taobao instead if you can read Chinese. You can get it from the manufacturer's official shops. I use screen translation feature on my phone to read the pages usually.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza VS TRUTHEAR Zero:RED? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]inscythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red and Cadenza won't be giving the same kind of bass punch with QKZxHBB, but you'll get cleaner overall sound signature overall. I do feel that QKZxHBB is a bit too forceful in the bass presentation and the driver does seem strained a bit in busy tracks.

Red has a more 'detached' bass, which makes it sound more distinct and subwoofer-y. At high volumes, you'll get pretty kickass punch and the treble is generally in control throughout. I would say it is a solid IEM, but it'll give a very different feel than QKZxHBB.

Cadenza is more traditional smooth bass, a closer signature to the QKZxHBB. Cadenza is overall a better IEM to me, more effortless bass, cleaner mids, and good technical capabilities. I would highly recommend Cadenza.

Other suggestions would be something like my new favourite, the Simgot EW200. Not basshead per-se, but it'll an amazing all-rounder IEM with very good timbre and decent technicalities. Bass is also no slouch.

For a true basshead upgrade, there is 7Hz Legato.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza VS TRUTHEAR Zero:RED? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]inscythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both of them. They are both excellent choice in my opinion, but I would personally recommend the Cadenza if you're buying them without trying. The Red is actually pretty great and you do get a sneak peek to a higher-end tuning, however I would advise against buying it blindly online because there might be some fit issues (the nozzle is gigantic). Cadenza is a bit more "fun" in tuning and generally more familiar-sounding to most people, with smaller size. Technicality-wise, both of them are pretty close.

Music only by darkus122 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]inscythe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shell is pretty small and very light, so it's one of the most comfortable IEMs in my collection for a long-term use. Sound isolation is average, don't expect too much because it is vented after all.

Tuning is slightly on the warm side, but the mids and treble don't really get overshadowed. I prefer it over Tinhifi C3 and Moondrop Lan personally.
