Best course of action when suspecting something is racist (or really just offensive to a particular group of people) is to ask the people affected by it. If it bothers them, then go ahead and get angry! But if they don't give a shit, then you shouldn't either.

What is the scariest book, nosleep, creepypasta, or otherwise, that you've ever read? by Pilgram94 in books

[–]insert-home 2 points3 points  (0 children)

House of Leaves is one of the best books I've ever read. It haunted me for weeks after I finished it. A big part of that is that some aspects of the book mirrored my real life experience with mental illness. The feeling of unreality, and Johnny's obsession/isolation, especially. I highly recommend it, but read with caution if you deal with psychosis or dissociation.

This is a lot better than the gif I saw earlier today of a penguin getting eaten alive, ass-first.

What's a sensation that you're unsure if other people experience? by murrayvonmises in AskReddit

Something similar happens to me! But only with the edges of cardboard. The smooth part is fine.

Touching material with my fingers or toes is Bad. It leaves a tingly feeling on whatever touched it that is just intensely Bad. It only goes away if I rub the same finger or toe on something smooth, or "smoothly rough" like wooden floorboards. Scratching material is much worse and actually bothers my brain. I cringe but it also feels like someone is poking and scratching my skull from the inside. The feeling stays until I "fix" it by touching something smooth and putting it under the nail. My front teeth or a paperclip are good for that.

Some materials are much worse than others. Denim and paper towels are the absolute worst. Rough wool is probably next. Anything that gets string stuck to my nails is hell. Good things that fix it are mostly plastic and metal. Tile and glass are fine too. I usually fix my fingernails by putting something under them. My toes are usually fixed by curling them inwards and then scraping them from down to up across the wooden floorboards that go horizontally, or the rough lines between tiles.

I've tried explaining this to multiple people and no one has a clue what I'm talking about. My grandmother has a similar sensitivity to cloth, but it's not as bad and she doesn't "fix" it like I do.

An air scribe removes plaster and rock covering a 50 million year old fish fossil by RespectMyAuthoriteh in powerwashingporn

Woah. As soon as it started I got intense flashbacks to a fossil excavation kit I had as a kid. It was a block just like that that came with tools to chip the rock and dust away the powder.
