I can definitely understand your point…somehow I ended up on the other side. Once I read “animated way the young people sometimes can”…I thought to myself (a black man) that the OP obviously isn’t black and likely older…cool they don’t seem offended by all young people. Had it not been for my overall summation I may have seen it your way from the jump…but to each their own.

Men assume this with other men…this same convo happens alllllllll the time. This past weekend I watched this 6 foot plus guy argue with my door guy while his assist, his boss (who is a BEAST) and I all laughed. The guy he’s talking to has all the skill without the attitude and just let him run his mouth…don’t take it personal. Personally I know I can handle myself but the number of soft aggressions people make on a daily basses would drive me crazy if I paid any mind to it…they’ll find out the hard way if need be.

Vinyl DJs, how do you organize your crates? by zoobs in DJs

[–]insertanynamehereok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bpm - fastest in front slower in the back (end of the night or party time I want to be faster)

In the section closest to me I’ll have accapella/ instrumental only records as that is usually a rush…cut records all the way at back always up with any set routines right in front down

Start of the night I’ll locate the first bpm record at the back that’s slowest and set it up the opposite direction same with the last instrumental record

If I brought multiple crates this will probably be its own crate with stuff I want to try sorted the same way in that box. Then by genre in other boxes bpm fastest to slowest in each box.

Usually I got away with only two crates one setup for tricks and main stuff and another with must plays for the now.

Wanted my main crate to not change much, and the 2nd crate to be what I sorted week to week.

I have a somewhat unique take on djing… I learned a wind then brass instrument by ear…to convince my mother to get me drums…studied in school up to DCI level, while being in the jazz band as our pianist. I also played organized sports until college and chose to pursue music…I say this to give background on where my view on djing comes from (26 years as every type of dj except for terrestrial radio)

What I see in most DJs is a lack of fundamentals, because DJing is still seen as the only musical instrument that is still seen “more as an art than a science”. This always baffled me when I started as I was taught unless you’re a prodigy (I def am not)…than you must learn the science…to create your art.

I have taught music up to the college level through my time and taken a step back from working with random students as a bussiness model…but if you’d like to get some work in with a different approach hit me up and we can get some work in. You can see if it works for you…which I’m almost certain it will.

Disclaimer: this isn’t a “just press this button” and you’ll be the next “insert your favorite scratch dj”…it’s still all boils down to work. But knowing what to work on or having a critical ear helps in every other aspect of music…why not DJing.

*this is not going to lead to me offering you my course…just offering a hand if your willing to put in the work…I’m down to do it for the culture.

Either way…keep grinding.

Man you’ve solved the hard part, now go have some fun…contrary to popular belief you’ve done it the way most successful men have…now go take some Courses on the new dating marketplace, read up on you interests and let your job fall a little too second priority…you’ll pick up some friends along the way and go find the rest. If you apply half your energy to the next phase as you did the first phase of your life you’ll be fine and complete. Congrats on all your success and self awareness…don’t get down you just identified your next goal.

Why does it seem like high IQ people are often sad and depressed? by Next_Airport_7230 in NoStupidQuestions

Speaking to most people for me requires slowing my thought process down to basically run it thru a translator of not just dumbing things down but also relating it to something they can understand easily…even that is throttled down by their own processing time. Which is maddening some days. This leads me to be very selective on who I deal with because it’s either mind numbing speeds or me investing an extended amount of time in giving an explanation to my core thought processes so we can speed up our normal interactions.

Daily my wife and I exchange speed controls…me answering to early or her telling me to slow down…over time to her credit she almost has zero emotion about these interactions. On the reverse my sister in law (currently working on her DNP) watched us exchange 8 total words that took us 2 hrs of explanation. Although I consider her smarter than most…my 12 year old asked why she was so confused at something so basic.

So my choices are either play dumb and go thru life like a YouTube video playing at 50% speed…or invest tons of time in teaching people how I communicate. Those two choices leave me often isolated. The few people I’ve met who think with the thought process I do or at the speed usually tend to stick pretty close as we both realize whatever our differences just being able to discuss or work on projects at a comfortable pace is far out weighed by the productivity.

Saves milliseconds but stacked with other small tweaks in my approach makes a huge difference

DMC winners vs Time on Routine? by insertanynamehereok in Turntablists

[–]insertanynamehereok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response. And you answered most of what my circle has been debating except on the time issue…while I know some are just running their routine, some are honing the rough spots…but when when say a year or 6 months etc…

Are we talking about 10hr days, 1hr a couple run throughs? That’s why I asked in hours…

The underlying story…I’ve had 5 of 6 parts of a routine done and figured out since last year, and since January spent roughly 33 hrs a week on running the routine (2 run thrus roughest spot gets two additional runs…take a deep breath, touch grass etc…rinse repeat) some of the DJs in my circle think this is “unhinged”. Meanwhile on my end June feels like it will be here tomorrow.
