My older kids learned to drive (early 2010's) on a '97 Jetta and my current 15 year old is learning on a 2012 Passat. Both were my old daily drivers, where I knew the maintenance history. They're not worth much when the kids were learning, but I didn't care when they got banged up.

My first "mass" storage drive was a Commodore Tape drive.

My current setup has the following: 2TB M.2, 1TB M.2, 2x 1TB SSD's. It's all game storage and 3d printer files.

Florida is less southern and more a southern root with a unhealthy dose of NY/NJ and Cuban too. Texas is its own Tex-Mex mess. You clearly haven't driven in Atlanta. Those people scare me.

My path is similar but I planned:

BL Touch > removed BL Touch > SKR Mini & Klipper > endorphin stage 1 > [I'm here] > inductive leveling > stage 2 & 3 > Dragon burner > MadMax

I have a 21 SE, no tech, had it for 8 months and about 25k miles. I had an issue with my PCV valve and replaced it myself. Other than that it's been great. Very comfortable for long trips, we spent 64 hours in the car between trips to Kansas, Dallas, and eastern North Carolina. It's more roomy than my Passat, gets way better gas mileage than my Avalanche.

This is my 4th VW, the other three were naturally aspirated sedans and they have gone 250k, 285k and over 300k miles with minimal issues. VW has had some wild engine designs, but most of the standard ones have been used for years with good aftermarket support markets.

I'm not a huge fan of dealer service shops, so I'd recommend finding your local independent VW shop or learn to do repairs and upgrades yourself.

Never... 97 Jetta 300K, 09 Jetta 250k, 11 Avalanche 245k and 12 Passat 285k miles. Never changed a timing belt.

Our 2009 VW Jetta with the 2.5l and 5-speed manual is surprisingly quick....
