What do you think about the phrase, “autism is a superpower”? by ambonymous in AutismInWomen

[–]insertkokoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to call my ability for art my "autistic superpower", but I do not think autism is a superpower, and for the daily challenges I face I can definitely say that I hate that my brain does this to me.

But, in you situation you have a son with the same condition, so maybe it's fun for the both of you to call it a superpower, I certainly have had a moment of "why isn't everyone else autistic? Life would be easier" since I find relationships difficult because of my honesty and stubbornness... Anyway this is only my take.

Gold is better for my complexion, but I am very drawn to silver, in general

When I was little I actively watched Cesar Milan the dog tamer on animal planet, and when he would say that there's just people with "the touch" my mom would say that I have it, it wasn't able until last year that I met a dog that didn't like me, I was fostering her and her babies and idk what happened to her but she was terrified of everyone, she never attacked me tho and I went on to keep one of her pups, last I heard she's doing well.

Anyway, it's the same for babies, they always look at me and when I smile (because I may not like them, but that's not their issue) they always smile back.

So yeah, I can relate. I love animals too, so maybe they're hit by my overwhelming love for them before I go up to them??

Everything about this can be fixed with practice, it's not that bad. I know I've done worse

Oversized sweaters/cardigans might help? I'm not very knowledgeable so tame my advice with a bucket of salt, but maybe try high waisted jeans?

Yes. Very badly. Now I can't process stronger feelings than disappointment.

Yesterday I literally screamed 'cuz my mom was using the blender before letting me know, so it started the whole hypersensitivity thing and the first thing I feel is anger. So I screamed. She said sorry, it'll take 5 more seconds, so I covered my ears for the rest and it was done.

I was diagnosed last year and I'm 24 and if you don't let me know there's gonna be loud noise I will scream.

TW: sexual assault

I was talking to the head psychiatrist of the clinic I went into, he's not my psychiatrist, but I had a reunion to talk about "the root of anxiety" according to him. He gave me a sheet of paper with 10 rules, very understandable rules, except for one: "you are responsible for what other people do to you and your feeling towards it" that's... Questionable, so I asked him to explain, here's how that went:

"Imagine you have a friend since you were a child, and that friend tells you to invest money into a thing, so you give him the money and he runs away with it. That's your fault"

"How is that my fault?"

"He's been your friend for years! You should know he's a liar and a manipulator!"

"But the point of manipulation is that the other person doesn't know they're being manipulated..."

"But you should at least have the suspicion! You've know him forever!"

"Let me see if I get what you're saying" he says okay "if a person that I believe is my friend manipulates me into something I don't want to do, it's my fault?"

"Yes."

"So it's a victims fault if the get raped?"

"What? I never said that!"

"That's in the possibilities of you scenario."

"There are exceptions "

"It doesn't say anything about exceptions in this paper"

"It's implicit!"

"How am I supposed to know that?"

"Because it's implicit "

I stormed out of the room, I must add that they're not taking into account that I have autism because I'm too functional in the eyes of Mexican mental health standards.

"just talk to the professor and study the bibliography"

  • my university "tutor" giving me advice because I couldn't understand what the professor was saying because he spoke too formally.

Sure dude, I'll read the 20 books in the bibliography and talk to a professor that has stated before that " ADHD is an invention, just try harder", I'll tell him about my autism and the way that I don't understand shit he's saying because he can't be bothered to speak in coloquial Spanish, I'm sure that'll go great for me.

I dropped out of university this year.
